Finally did research on Roy Jones. He actually did avoid most of the top MW-SMW.

Eubank wanted no part of a prime version of Roy.

In 1996, Roy moved up to LHW when he couldn't unify the SMW division.

Collins only held the lightly regarded WBO belt.

In 1999, Collins again wanted to fight Roy. But nobody wanted to see it. Collins had been inactive and HBO preferred a unification with Reggie Johnson instead.

    It was just circumstances.

Got to give Collins a lot of credit though.

It's a common misconception that Roy avoided lots of fighters.

You're in denial or were too young to understand what RJJ did.

    Neither.

Just because certain fights didn't happen, it didn't automatically mean that Roy ducked them.

It's a common misconception that Roy ducked a host of guys, and the claims are made out of frustration.

Give me a list of who he ducked and give me some info/evidence to go along with it.

Eubanks, asked recently why he never fought Roy: "that would have been suicide. Suicide".

so lets take him off the list as well.

i have no intention to jump into this debate but the logic you are using- (fights with other top dogs not happening) is not enough by itself.

by this logic, GGG is ducking the entire division

It's been done to death mate. But it's a common misconception.

    Correct.

    There's always circumstances to consider.

What upsets me the most as a huge fan of Roy's, is all the great potential MW fights he missed in the early 90's. While Gerald, Jackson, Reggie, Toney, Nunn and McCallum etc were all facing each other, Roy was fighting nobodies (no disrespect intended) for peanuts. And that was because his father had wrapped him up in cotton wool and wouldn't let him off the leash. Fred Levin, who along with his brother Stan, handled Roy's career for a long time, is on record saying that his father hid title fight opportunities from him. When they were offered by the Levin's, Big Roy would say that he'd sit down and discuss them with Roy. Then he'd go back and tell them that Roy wasn't interested, even though Roy didn't know anything about them. It was bizarre. Big Roy had moulded his son into a fighting machine, yet he wouldn't unleash him into the world. Roy only started to progress after he'd split from his father in the summer of 1992.

Roy's biggest criticism came in the late 90's/early 00's, just prior to, and just after he'd unified the LHW division. And once again, it was due to frustration. People were tired of seeing him beat up on what many people perceived as nobodies. But they didn't know what was happening behind the scenes, and Roy had mandatory obligations from all three of the main organisations. Fights against Frazier, Kelly and Woods etc were all mandatories. The whole 'Roycott afair" was completely unjust.
