Did you not have Calzaghe at or near #2 during a good chunk of the end of his career? He didnt beat anyone in the top 5 until his last fight. So???

I dont have Williams as high as many people on here yet, but quite honestly, he might very well be the best fighter in the world. I dont favor ANYONE from 147-160 over him. There isnt another fighter alive that I can say that about.

His potential is anywhere from #1 P4P to ATG status. And I am not remotely kidding...

Mosley is top 5. I have him at 5.

    Cotto is at 6.

Mosley was not top 5 p4p when he lost to Cotto. In fact he wasn't in the top 10.

It's not that Paul has done something super great to reach number 4. It's that the people below him aren't doing anything great as well.

Since losing to Quintana, he blew him out in a rematch.

    Blew out the MW Koelle.

Stopped Philips who was coming off a win over Spinks. (Spinks was a fight removed from losing an SD to Taylor)

And then he just beat Winky. Despite Winky coming off a layoff, no one's come close to dominating Winky like that.

Good for him . . . he is working for it slowly but surely and he deserves it.

Now it's time to work harder to move higher into the rating.

I don't follow Pwilly real closely, but he is on record as wanting 'big fights'. My connection is running slow cuz I'm downloading some fights right now. Sergei Dzindziruk ?

I know a top 154 guy is calling him out. Most seem to think it would be a good fight in the threads I've read.

The Calzaghe situation is different and you can consider someone to be in the top echelons of a P4P list if they have dominated a division for a long time, unified titles and beat world class fighter that have stepped up in weight to challenge you (e.g. BHOP).

It just seems that everyone is basing it on Williams potential where I think it is more important to consider is achievements to date. I just dont see how he could be top 5 P4P based on his level of comp.

So? De la hoya, Trinidad hadn't boxed in 2 years and yet they both their fight easily vs the same fighter. Ray Leonard was coming off what 3 or 4 years when he beat Hagler? I could go on and on.

If that is the best example/explanation you can come up with I suggest you revise your previous statement about Goosen asking for too much and "people" calling him out. Sorry.

Dominating a division is true...but looking utterly dominant through 3 weight divisions is impressive enough to warrent different circumstances than most. What he is doing right now, is almost unprecedented...and utterly breathe taking (remember, he isnt just beating fighters throughout three divisions, he is DESTROYING them). You have to admit this much.

Again, I agree with you that he is not top 5 yet...but to just write him off based on his resume alone isnt right. His h2h ability is above most, if not all fighters out there...his general boxing ability (and natural gifts like stamina, speed, etc.) is also off the charts, and getting better by the fight. He is a marvel. Like I said, my personal feeling is, his potential begins at P4P#1 and ends at ATG status.

We see eye to eye on his placement, but his resume doesnt nessessarily exclude him is all Im saying.

Top 5???? :patsch Margo and Winky are his only true fights.. His win against Margo is full of doubts but I give him credit for his win against the over-the-hill Winky...

Paul Williams, Bernard Hopkins, and Joe Calzaghe should all fight in the Super Middle Tournament.

You got high hopes for Williams I hope he does not let you down. No doubt we can not be dismissive of the way he is so competitive at various weight categories and his ability is there for all to see.

I would like to see him make 154 his home and unify and maybe when he gets naturally bigger and stronger he can go to 160.

Some guys were saying Williams would be good at 168 but I just see him getting KTFO by guys like Taylor, AA, Froch and Kessler but he could perhaps outbox Pavlik at 160 who knows.

It's GBP trying to make Winky look like he lost to a Top guy... otherwise, it's gonna be hard for Winky/GBP to land any more lucrative paydays..
