Finally saw the HBO Don King movie. How much of it is accurate?

Yes, I have that movie and love it. I like Ving Rhames and he did a wonderful job. I think the movie was loosely based on a book by Jack Newfield titled: Only in America, The Life and Crimes of Don King. Obviously the book is anti-King. I don't think HBO went overboard in bashing King, but at the same time they didn't make him look like Mr. Niceguy either.

So the book is good huh? I'll have to add it to my to buy list. I know of the book, but have never read it. Does the book seem to take a fact-based approach, or is it kind of slanted and anti-King?

 

i read the don king book and larry holmes bio back to back..so many interestings things..both intertwined with eachother. The stories involving Ali are the main parts!

 

I enjoyed the film. Wasn't sure how seriously to take it when Don King himself cuts in every now and then to make excuses for himself, and sometimes just rant

Haha. I could see how Don king's story and Larry Holmes' could be intertwined. Once when asked about his rollercoaster relationship with Larry Holmes, King responded "even the teeth bite the tongue sometimes, and I don't know anything closer than them", in typical King fashion.

 

Ving really was great in that. And I liked that kid from Family Matters as Ali. I have no idea really about the accuracy of it. But what a classic scene when King gets into "The devil is a mother****er!" I haven't seen that in a long, long time. I wish they'd show it again.

 

Reading the Holmes book, you just feel for the man, lol, King put him through some wack ****..but the phenom of Muhammad Ali plays an intricate part i must say!
Holmes even shits on Tyson, i think its from his book where he says he predicted TYsons downfall and will end up in Prison..

 

Ali looked like a wax work dummy in the film..hilarious.

 

I don't remember that but like I said, it's been a long time.

 

Rhames playing King? Not sure about the sound of that.

King has degraded the sport, the fighters are great independantly of him. I don't give him much like some people think he deserve.
