I had Kovalev winning a extremely close fight! This type of analysis that breaks down and shows every little touch is good but, has to take into consideration that some of the punches landed were in clinches and close to the back and probably not called a punch. Also there were some punches that were partially blocked, that the video creator scored as punches. Sitting ringside, a judge may have and probably did not score those blows. Ward won the fight far and square, with in the agreed upon rules. Just because your fighter loses with in those said rules doesn't mean the system is rigged or that the system needs to be changed. It was a good fight and hopefully the rematch is just as good or better.
If you scored it 8-4 for Kovalev, then I am not the one who needs to watch it again! I don't even think Lederman had that.
Its not just the fans, the referee, boxing experts/gurus/commentators and other boxing officials, including mainstream media and sports sites, an overwhelming majority of boxers and trainers, 80 percent of the human population that watched the fight had Kovalev winning, including Ward himself.
Ward bullied the bully and made Kov headlock him to avoid getting that inside work. This fight reminds me of Canelo-Lara where Canelo won from body shots. Ward made Kov scared of taking more of them body shots. People in the audience said when Ward connected to the body it sounded like someone beating on a bass drum.
Yes, the boxing match was close, which really is a testament to how good Kov can box, but the damage inflicted wasn't close remotely. Kov did a number on Ward and no way on this planet a light puncher like Ward should get the 10 points in a round when Kov landed just as many or more punches.
Even if Kovalev won the decision, I would still be calling for a rematch. I was thinking rematch midway through the bout. Just IMO.
So many rounds in which my friend and I were asking ourselves: who the heck do you give that round to? It was really close. That said, Ward being an American fighting a Russian in America with American judges might have give few of those close rounds to Ward. Those rounds might have been given to Kovalev in Russia.
