My work schedule has been maddening so I had to record the fight. Just got to watch it. I had read some of the press and comments on the fight and expected it to be a boring fight. I found it to be quite exciting actually. Even tho I knew who was going to win it. Ward was absolutely surprising and amazing. He fought a perfect fight against Green. He took Alan out of the fight from round one. Not that Green was not trying. He just did not have an answer for the more talented and better prepared Ward. It was not so much that what Green was trying to do was all that bad it just was not nearly good enough to beat Ward who fought a nearly perfect fight plan. Styles make fights and Ward's style is all wrong for Green. Especially considering how often Ward has fought recently and how long Green has been off. If Green were my fighter he would have had at least one tune up fight before fighting for the title against a world class fighter like Ward. I think the style of fight, and the type of it was was due more to how great Ward fought and less on how poorly Green looked. Either way, it was a good fight.
For Andre Ward fans, this was definitely a great fight (YAY - watched it 3times) For Boxing Purists, this was a very intriguing fight (note the commentators) For Hardcore boxing fans, this was an average to possibly low fight For Action viewers, this was a non-plus fight....
For anyone with eyes this non fight was a total piece of ****. Ward leads with his head and it's only a matter of time before someone takes it off his shoulders. The sooner the better!
Ward put on a fantastic display of Boxing. He beat Green to the punch, every time Green even so much as thought punch Ward was jabbing, on every occasion and kept him in lockdown mode the rest of the time. I thoroughly enjoyed the fight for the first few rounds, but after that it was a foregone conclusion and not that that's a bad thing, but for the same reason I don't watch many of the lower weight classes, there was no impending danger of Ward knocking Green out. I chalked it up as a rout and turned the fight off after round 6
Really, I tried to watch it the other day. I got about 6 rounds in and stopped watching. There was just way too much clinching/hitting and holding for my liking. I hope all the people talking about how brilliant Ward is are the same people that tried to call Ricky Hatton boaring because he was far more entretaining then that ****. Perhaps the fight got more interesting later on. I heard Ward Rocked Green bad in the 7th but I couldn't even stick around for that the fight was so boaring. Maybe I should have.
It was actually from this point forward, where Ward began seriously dismantling Green - making it just a tad more exciting to watch and appreciate the skill before you. But yeah, 80% of the fight was painfully boring to watch. Ward, in future, will definately be having more meaningful wins than this one. He'll make them boring, but he'll be the best in his division.
Excellent analysis, imo. Personally, I think I'm in the "hardcore boxing fans" category. I thought it was a decent/average fight. Might have been better if Green had a Plan B. Or C. Come to think of it, what the hell was his Plan A?
Naw, he's just one of the board's action addict haters who would prefer to see some good ole Ground and Pound.
Patriotism should be added, Germans was also crazy about Ottkes fights.. The difference is that Ward is much better then Ottke ever was, and you should therefore expect more from him. Maybe Ward should borrow one of Greens comic books: "With great power comes great responsibility" I like a chess like fight with two even fighters, but Ward didnt need to play it that save against Green.
