Good post, but if he had three arms:deal

Reality is Golovkin's defense is above average. He is no Mayweather, but calling for example James Toney a defensive genius, he got clipped with power shots by his opponents quite regularly even in his MW days and saying stuff like Golovkin has "no defense" in the next sentence is just stupid.

Murray was basically done in the last rounds of the fight, kept in there by his will alone. His punches didn't have sting anymore. In the earlier rounds his punches did much more (causing GGG to step back, moving his head, bob and weave which he did quite nicely). He just didn't have enough gas in his tank left to create a deterring offense and then Golovkin started to trade much more than he did in the first couple of rounds.

Kessler was a massive Super middleweight with 35 KOs out of 46 wins himself, I don't think he'd be too afraid of MW Golovkins power

The critics and haters will always lambast GGG no matter
what he does. I personally love a skillful risk taking
stalker. GGG is a drama show, as he calls it. Drama indeed.
There isn't a more compelling or entertaining fighter in the
sport, and hardcores should get behind this guy because he
could literally resurrect prime time boxing to a respectable
    measure.

Golovkin is much more defensively adept when he wants to be than many realize.

Look at this fight from earlier on in his career. He blocks, parries and ducks and twists out of the way of virtually all of his opponents shots, rarely if ever getting caught clean (and look how effortless and relaxed he is doing it), and then finishes him off in style.

Well , i guess Abel has changed the way he fights (maybe because of ratings or what not) , but i havent seen him fight this way not against big punchers (stevens) as well , in this fight he doenst pressure at all and he isnt coming forward like he does these days , maybe he will showcase some of this style once he goes up to 168 and needs a bit more defence.

    Two comments:

    1) GGG was 26 in this fight, not 32

    2) The guy he was in with was a 15-8 journeyman.

At some point the reflexes just start going, I didn't make the rule. Mayweather gets nailed on the chin by everyone now, Mosley Ortiz, Cotto and Maidana have all blasted him...and he's still one of the best defensive fighters in boxing; the thing is, he used to be THE best.

He looked much better than Murray to me and I don't think he really got hit that much either. He obviously did take some punches, that usually happens in a ten round fight. As has been explained as the fight wore on he left himself open to some punches in order to get Murray to come out of his shell, turn it into a fight and get the stoppage. It seems that GGG knows he's a beast in this division and is going in there to beat people up, hurt them and stop them not necessarily put on a master-class clinic with defence as his top priority.

Yeah, Sanchez has changed his style and you're right it was a conscious decision to make him a seek and destroy KO merchant to boost his appeal to the American market.

Golovkin is easy to hit but I think he is willing to take shots to keep pressure on his opponent and get his own shots off. He cuts the ring off better than any other active fighter and in brief flashes you see him do little things defensively you don't expect he has in his repertoire.

So while I don't think you'll ever see him fight like Mayweather or Whitaker I think when it needs to be his defensive skills will be better than some think.

I wonder this as well. A prime Kessler would have beaten him IMO.

The final punch stats were Golovkin landed 292, Murray 131.

Kind of negates any real argument about just power being the decider.

I disagree. Obviously power wasn't THE deciding factor but opponents become reluctant to fight back after feeling the power. Take the power away and Murray takes more risks. Flip that, give Murray power and Golovkin takes less risks. Nobody is discrediting Golovkin's skills, just not over rating it.
