Hi all, New to the forum. I'm back boxing after 10 years out and I'm loving it. I'm having a bit of trouble finding my range when sparring though. Has anybody got any drills that I can do to improve my footwork? Thanks in advance, DD.
Hit the heavy bag, one that swings so you have to keep moving so that the bag doesn't smother your punches or get too far away. You'll notice after a bit that it is small steps that work best, and that it is more effective to work around instead of back and forth.
Shadowboxing is great because you can work on whatever you want. Imagine that an opponent is in front of you. Picture an opponent throwing a punch then slip it and come forward. Don't throw punches just slip in and move around the ring working only on footwork. What specifically is it that you have trouble on with footwork?
Well I was taught to step into the punch and to step backwards to draw the in your opponent and leave him off balance. Holyfield was renowned for this. If you work around the bag circling left you're open to a lead right hand. Circle right and you'll be eating hooks all night long another Holyfield technique.
Kick your heels out like Holyfield this is the almost perfect defense. Holyfield was the master of hooking of the clinch. His style of siding up or pointing left shoulder and coming in between his opponents fleets made him almost impossible to beat.
That is not only gibberish but has nothing to do with what we were talking about. But we'll let that go. I'm not as bored as I thought I was and I'm not going to play any more.
It has everything to do with what we are talking about. Finding your range is done making your opponent reach in, by making him commit first. Who can truly know what your range is without testing. You are a sooth-sayer.
Exactly!:good Grey what not sell a dowsing rod while you're at it, hell if it can find water it could also find rangeatsch
