Im looking for suggestions and advice on how to find your style in the ring. Should it be based solely off your measurements (height, reach) or be by how you approach the game of boxing (mentality, Emotion)

I'll use myself as an example so that i can explain better.
I am 6" with a 77in arm reach, and also using the Armpit-to-Fist measurement that they use in fights sometimes i have a 29 1/2 in reach, which is pretty good because most of the fight i've seen they have an average reach of 24in. But on the other side of the argument is that i love to bang, get in there and throw uppercuts, hooks, and just fight.

    Comments, suggestions?:?

Whatever works for you. If you can work of your physical advantages it's best to do that, however some tall guys like to mix it up and some smaller fighters like to box and move.

Try new things, work on all aspects of your game and you'll find your grove.

your style is solely to do with your mindset. if you choose to nurture your assets then that is your call but initially it should be based on your mentality.

some guys are fearless in letting a punch whizz by their face and counter someone. others are fearless in taking the front foot. both have trouble fighting in the other style but feel at home doing what comes naturally.

ultimately you should learn everything and fight in your core style but be prepared to come out of it to adapt to your opponent.

  4. Get in a brawl and test yourself, if you're there looking for an advantage and trying to get there first and figure things out you're a boxer. If you want to fight and damage your opponant you want to train as a fighter.

Just pay attention to your instincts.

I think it is a matter of finding what works for you, then sharpening those skills.

Likewise, I think its important to find what mistakes you make and try to correct them.

You don't choose your style, it chooses you. Once you have a lot of sparring rounds under your belt you'll find yourself doing the same things and reverting to patterns that work for you.

Not the same as a gameplan though--you choose your gameplan. You tailor it to suit your physical advantages, style, and opponent. But your style is just a product of experience.

    This! :deal

If you like to bang? You bang. If you like to wait and counter? You wait and counter. If you like to move and pot shot? You will. Once you know the basics it just comes out of you.
