https://www.skysports.com/boxing/ne...eats-orlando-fiordigiglio-by-second-round-tko Surprised that there has been no mention of this fight and subsequent win for Sam. Fair play in going away from home and doing the job inside 2 rounds. I presume this now gives him the IBF #5 Ranking @ 154? Some lovely shots that he puts together to get the win. I wonder if a fight with Kell Brook might suddenly be on the horizon given Brooks history with the IBF? Video and report in the attached link.
Eggington would be the last person Brook would be looking at. He only wants mega fights according to Hearn.
I was under the impression that Brook wants a warm up before tackling the top top boys? I'm just seeing 2 Brits involved with the IBF who you can argue are still at a crossroad each, despite The Eggs win last night, in their respective careers. I just cannot see a cold Brook (as much as he thinks he can do) jumping straight into a top tier fight, he'd get wasted good style if so.
I don't mind Eggington myself. He's nothing great but he's always willing to fight anyone and loves a scrap. A real old school fighter.
Thought he'd lost to be honest, so that's good for him that he won. Don't ever want to see him near world level again though.
That’s correct but apparently he still wants it to be someone with name value as he struggles to get himself up for the fight otherwise. I’ve heard Jessie Vargas mentioned and Liam Smith. From what I understand Brook would only take a tickover if the Khan or crawford fight is signed for afterwards.
Nope, especially not at 154. He still beats Eggington handily I would have though though. Not dead set against it but it's not a fight I'd be overly excited for
I think Brook would destroy Eggington because unlike Gavin and Malignaggi he can hit hard and with real spite.
If a shot Paulie can have you stunned and eating leather, even an out of sorts of Brook would take him out you think. Brooks at that iffy stage of his career now tho, underestimate a warm up and it could easily go south. Injuries, beat downs and time out are not doing him any favors. Sam should maybe go for a Euro strap and maybe nick a shot at a world belt for some $$$ and call it a day. His style isn't made for a long career and he's already showing plenty of wear and tear
Eggington looked bang up for it last night - from the opening bell he put it on Fiordigiglio and took him apart!
Thought someone had slipped LSD in my tea watching Eggington last night. Lots of head movement, much improved defence, slipping inside the jab and countering, and good shot variation and selection.....Still not entirely sure whether i was dreaming or not
I agree. If I was Smith I’d be begging Eddie for the Brook match. He says he wants Munguia rematch or Lara but he fought well last time against Munguia and would have probably stopped him if he had any serious power in my opinion. Nothing will have changed for a rematch unless Munguia is now dead at weight. He says he wasn’t right for the first fight but if he can’t ko him even if he outboxes him he’s get robbed anyway. If he fought Brook it’s well winnable and would bring a good purse and he’d be right up there for anything then.
I agree. For so long on here Liam Smith was seen as crap. People had their opinions on Paul being too lazy to fight at 160 or even lower and they didn’t like him getting an undeserved shot. That’s fair enough but I think that negativity spread to his brothers, particularly Liam who has always been my favourite out of them. I think he’s finally getting respected now though. Anyway would love to see the Brook fight. As for Eggington, as others eluded to I think he should try and earn as much money as he can out of fights he’s not going to get battered in. Good to hear he was using head movement and some skill.
