He will have his retirement fight on October 21st in Goppingen. Great servant for the sport. Turned pro in 1997 and won the cruiserweight world title in 2007. His resume includes Vergil Hill,Marco Huckx2,Guillermo Jones,Rudiger May,Grigory Drozd,Valery Brudov,Darnell Wilson,Alexander Alekseev.

Absolute warrior, who fought a who's who at Cruiserweight. Who also happened to be a damn fun fighter to watch. Glad he finally decided to hang 'em up, even though for a 52 year old, he was still operating on a fairly high level. If it weren't for a few shady decisions, his resume would be sterling, alongside his damn impressive TKO win over Drozd, his only loss. He should also have Huck, Alekseev and Yoan Pablo Hernandez in his W column. Enjoy your retirement champ!

He wasn't always the most fun to watch, but he's hard to not respect.

Not a gatekeeper. Inconsistent but he was elite on a good day.

No, not always, but depending on the opponent, he could be.

Definitely at the latter stage of his career he became more of a spoiler. Can't say I blame him for that. Not going to hang with a young Huck as an old man if you don't spoil a bit.

About time. The man was an absolute beast who took on everyone. May he enjoy his retirement.

Wasn’t he amongst the bunch that were coming through like Arthur Abraham and khoren gevor? That stable I mean? Is that still going in Germany? Only really have kabayal now I guess

Solid fighter, gave a lot of good fighters hell and was on the wrong end of some shady decisions. Glad to see him retire. Great ambassador to the sport.

On an unrelated note I always thought this guy looked like a Turkish version of the kickboxer Andy Hug.

His father, Jacques Firat, was the president of French Canadia. He will be missed.

Finally! He should be thaught as a lesson on how to maximize your abilities to young fighters.

Imagine if he got the decisions against Huck and Hernandez.

Is Firat the last fighter coming from the 90's to hang up the gloves? I can´t think of anybody else who once fought at world level and is still hanging on having debuted back in the 90's.
