Lately I have been watching heaps of fights that go under most people's radar... smaller European cards etc. IntentionalButt has convinced me this is where the hidden gems are Just saw the Arslan fight. His committed body attack was a thing of beauty. Is he still relevant on the CW scene or over the hill? His left rip to the ribs was making me wince in the middle rounds.
Great to see Firat fighting again, met him after Klitschko Arreola in LA...he had had a few injuries after loosing his title and was excited to get back to it...really cool guy
Maybe top ten at CW even now, although that says more about the lack of real depth there. I like him as a fighter and would love to see him successful in this comeback, racking up a few more good wins and getting one last title shot. He certainly doesn't have the demeanor of a 40 year old in the ring.
He's always been a fun fighter watch, reason being is that he's so limited, just come forward and bang. Guillermo Jones absolutely took him apart a few years back. I really don't see him beating any of the current champions, and at 40 not sure why he's still fighting, unless he needs the money. He's the sort of fighter who takes a lot of punishment when he's in with someone with some skill. As an aside, his 2003 draw with Vadim Tokarev is worth watching, if you can find it. Epic battle that very few have seen. Outstanding scrap.
CW is such an enigmatic division that he could still make noise at the age of 40. Decent fighter wouldn't be shocking to see him regain a title (if he can make a match with Wlod).
Thought he was done after his comeback fight with Herelius (which was very good btw!), Herelius is nothing more than an average fighter and Arslan was in a right state at the end, retiring on his stool. Done on the world stage IMO.
