what happens in this fight? thoughts please i think the wild bull of the pampas takes the heart out of lyle.
Firpo never had a colour tv or an ipod, he'd lose because of that, the lack of technology in his life would mean he wouldn't be as motivated as Lyle,
i believe that firpo would be even more motivated and those guys without dvds or i pods were tougher than the guys who has that stuff. firpo would edge lyle with a possible first round ko.
Ron had a frustrating tendency to sometimes slug with sluggers and box with boxers. Luis was all about dropping down the hammer with that right hand driving in from up high with it. Lyle's jab could neutralize and keep it at range. Even if Ron does box smartly and conservatively though, Firpo would not stop coming with it, and eventually he'd break through, as he did with Willard and Brennan, and as Ali and Jerry Quarry did with Lyle. Once Ron cracked, he'd be finished.
Firpo was not as bad as Dempsey made him look. Firpo headline ballpark shows with 40 odd thousand fans twice to see his fights BEFORE he fought Dempsey. Maybe he had a good publicity man but if there was no substance behind the hype he never would have broke America like he did. Real fans bought it. He hurt everyone he hit. The footage is lousy but he beat up KO bill Brenan pretty good, a genuine KO over a credible guy with a durable record.
very few Heavyweight showed the raw aggression of Firpo against Dempsey but other then the flight from the ring Dempsey pretty much dominated. Therefore Firpo became known for his great loss. Lyle was no Dempsey IMO as far as power and he could get caught in a few of the wild Bull rushes but overall Ron had the better skill level from what I can see and should win a 10 rounded by a eventful UD but Ron could hit the deck and also score a stop like he did vs Shavers...I favor Lyle but the Bull is alive
I think it would be a fans fight. Lyle had the shakier chin, but he also had the better skills. Lyle via UD is my best guess.
