Just cause you're on the ropes doesn't mean you're getting hit or losing. Although on the ropes, Floyd either blocked, or rolled MOST of those punches. Watch more closely, homie!
More than likely the outcome would have been exactly what we all think...a UD by Floyd. But the fact is that Ortiz landed some very clean left hands that got Floyd's attention. The fact that Ortiz had a lot of weight on him allowed for him to absorb the shots Floyd was tagging him with. But Ortiz has the power to change things which is why everyone was left unfulfilled with the way the fight ended. Oritz did a LOT better than anyone expected. I didn't think he'd land as clean and as often as he did.
... So, you thought Ortiz would land LESS than 26 times?! Watch, again, and you will see in Ortiz's face that he starts to get discouraged. And, even with "a lot of weight on him" he was getting backed up by Mayweather. Mayweather was NEVER hurt or made any more attentive of Ortiz's left than he already was. May was touchin' Vic up nice all four rounds. He was on his way to getting stopped - maybe not cold, but someone would've stopped it, eventually.
He leaned into the first punch that hurt him a bit which sent him to the ropes. Manny's right hook is faster, more powerful and could find a home on Floyd's pretty face.
he does have heavy hands and did some land some shots, which is why i twouldve been interesting continuing forward, although it certainly looked like a UD12 for floyd, it was only the 4th round and who knows how a 35 year old floyhd wouldve been in the 10th round if he hadnt been able to seriously hurt ortiz
I thought Ortiz would have been taken to and fro "school" like Floyd did Gatti. I didn't think Ortiz would land HARD lefts as much as he did. Ortiz wasn't discouraged...he was fighting with anger and emotion...which isn't a good think in there with Floyd...but it was working as we saw Floyd eat more left hands in 4 rounds than he ate right hands all night against Shane. Ortiz backed up on his own....he was almost baiting Floyd to come in so he could catch him with that left he was having success with. Floyd wasn't every hurt...but he did take some hard left hands he always saw coming. Floyd was touchin Victor up...but that was always to be expected...no one expected Victor to touch Floyd up...even if it wasn't as efficent as Floyd. I'm not sold that Floyd was going to get a stoppage after watching the 4 rounds bro. Before...I said Floyd was going to stop Vic a la "GATTI"-esque type of performance but Gatti didn't do as well as victor.
Ortiz landed one shot that whole exchange, and it wasn't even hard. Floyd rolled or blocked everything else, thus why Ortiz headbutted. Floyd haters see what they want to see.. the real outcome was Floyd dominated him, then KO'd a stupid Ortiz.
Don't think Ortiz was trying to bait Floyd by backing up - he's not that type of fighter. If he was, he wasn't capitalizing off of it. Floyd only caught a FEW rights from Mosely. He only caught a few from Ortiz. He either blocked, or rolled most of Ortiz's punches. Check the CompuBox numbers! Neither fighter was ever hurt, but I just think that either the ref, or Ortiz's corner would've been forced to throw in the towel at some point, cause he was eating too many hard, clean shots - 49% to be exact. Nah, Victor is WAY better than Gatti was. I actually thought Ortiz would do better. I EVEN thought it could've been Floyd's first time on the canvas. I DID think Floyd would end up with the W. by outboxing him, though.
