well I have my first amature fight May 8th. I've been training for about a year. Never really ran till about 2 months ago. I usually do interval training. Sprints. I also do long distance running 4 times a week. 3 times a week I do my sprints. I'm almost at the weight ima be fighting at. I'm going in at 178. I'm @ 189 right now. (Its a smoker bout so I guess I don't really have 2 be at a specific weight) I just wanted 2 ask what do you guys think about that weight? Like what should I expect? What kind of fighters are at that weight?? And if you have some extra work out tips or suggestions please help me out, I know there's a lot of guys on here with good knowledge about amature boxing so I'm all ears to your opinion. Ill post the fight after. Also, does anyone know the purpose of hitting a big tire with a sledge hammer is? I do it but I really don't know what its for...lol Thanx I appreciate it. Oh, and what do u guys think about glove size? I hit the bag and spare with 18 oz cleto training gloves. I do my mitt work, double end bag and reflex bag with 12oz everlast gloves. Is that ok? Or should I switch it around.
I think it will depend on the fighter. There is a guy at my gym at 175 who is lightning fast. And about 5'6. Then theres me, slower with more power I guess. It will depend on the fighter I think.
what should you expect? VICTORY! you could get a powerful short guy, a powerful tall guy, a fat guy, whatever. You never know. Have a plan for bigger and smaller guys. the sledgehammer will help your punching power and work capacity. don't murder yourself to make weight if you don't have to, but by all means cut some fat if possible.
Thanx 4 the help guys....I'm super nervous but I'm working extra hard so I have no excuses... And of course I expect victory......lol....I'm super competitive I hate losing even tho I know its part of amature boxing but I'm tryna win them all
Same advice I give everyone when they're asking what to expect for their fist fight... Try to actually use the skills you've learned at the gym. Too many first fights just turn into wild brawls. What's the point of going to the gym to learn boxing if you're just gonna throw huge bombs when you get in there. If you can actually box (footwork, jab, quick combos) you will have a huge advantage over someone who gets caught in the moment and just starts throwing wild. That and cardio, cardio, cardio. You will get tired quicker than you do in sparring at the gym because you don't have any nerves/adrenaline rush at the gym like you will in a real fight where you've got someone trying to hurt you.
well my trainer kept telling me before my first fight that the only thing i got to worry about is the first punch, and the rest is like automatic.. and thinking about it now it kinda was, its just like glorified sparring and also remember if its your first fight chances are its gonna nehis too
I hope so. Ive heard since im a novice i could possibly fight someone that has up to 10 bouts already. thanx for the advice.....
