Lots of posts on here making me feel very old indeed. Rudkin - McGowan II is the first interest I really showed in the sport, truly epic confrontation
Bruno vs Carl Williams I think it was on ITV before/after some footy and my grandad said ''Lennox Lewis would kill these two''
I was born in 82 so my earliest memory would have been around the Spinks fight in the late eighties, so I can't remember the whether they showed them earlier than that or not. I remember being devastated when Tyson lost to Douglas, and complaining to everyone that he wasn't allowed to put the gumshield back in and the stoppage was unfair. Looks a bit stupid now when you watch the fight again and realise how out of it he was.
Holmes v Ali i was around eight years old. muhammad ali...........that name muhammad ali, even as a kid i knew it meant something, i knew people revered this fella like a god but watching that fight, willing this special man to do something special, then willing him to do anything, then willing him to be alright. ****ing sad really but maybe thats the hook, it certainly grabs you like no other sport.
Ernie "The Acorn" Shavers...:good My first memory as a kid was watching Alan Minter when he beat Vito Auntofermo to win the World Title at Ceasers Palace in Las Vegas, it was on ITV and my Aunty let me stay up late to watch it...:deal I was hooked instantly...:deal
my is very similar to someone elses. watching tyon bruno1 on a sun morning replay and loving it! hooked since....
1992 Olympic games, Wayne McCullough vs Joel Casamayor gold medal match Michael Carruth vs Juan Hernandez Sierra gold medal match I was only 6 but remember it was a scorching hot day, think it was august. Remember coming in and out from playing in the garden to watch the two fights with my dad and uncle
Damn, i remember that day too, i just watched match after match in the finals on the bbc, it was the day i realised how much of a force Cuba were in the amateurs, apart from Carruth and ODLH, i dont remember anybody else winning a god damn gold medal lol :good
The controversy surrounding the decision in the 1st fight between Lewis and Holyfield, it seemed to be absolutely everywhere.
Yeah the cubans were all over those Olympic games . They had 9 finalists that day from 12 weight divisions, and won 7 gold! Ubelievable!!
my dad use to put on old tapes of ali and hagler which i watched, but the first real fight i watched live on telly was tyson/bruno 1, i was only 7 at the time. i also remember in the early 90s my dad and brother waking me up well late at night saying 'youve gotta come an watch this bloke on the telly fight!' it was prince naseem.
