Watching highlights on the news of Lewis getting banjoed by Rahman :-( Remember a lot of talk about Naz before then but don't think I ever saw him fight.
The build-up for Tyson-Bruno I in 1989. Good to see others that were also drawn in by this fight. It wasn't because of Tyson though, it was Bruno. Practically a folk hero, he was.
was Benn-eubank for me. I remember watching a lot of boxing prior to that because my folks ****ing love it too, but these were the names that made it a love affair for me
Renaldo Snipes...That's a name I ain't heard for a while...:yep Loved both fights with Minter v Auntofermo...:good
I was well aware of boxing from a very early age i remember my father going to watch Ali v Foreman (i think) on closed circuit tv at the Flicks when i was about 10 and being gutted when he said i was too young to go . but i distinctly remember the 72 Summer Olympics when Mary Peters from Northern Ireland won the Gold in the Pentathlon and watching the boxing coverage from that same olympics , **** i feel old listening to most of your early memories ..:-(..Good thread but better if the likes of Bunce and some of the pro's come on here to like Tony Bellew just did .
I think it was seeing benn and eubank on a tele show together. That or I think it was Bruno and Lewis on a charity programme in the lead up to a fight (childreen in need or soemthing). The first fight i remember seeing is a naz fight, dont rememebr the opponent though.
Minter v Hagler, must have been allowed to stay up to watch. When I was at primary school we used to get asked trivia questions on specialist subject from time to time and I always used to ask for one on boxing - it must have been pretty basic as I couldn't have known much as a kid I really remember this teacher, Mr Short asking me who was the British HW champ and I said (confidentally) John L Gardner but I was wrong it was Neville flaming Mead.
