i remember the ray leonard vs thomas hearns 1 fight was broadcast via satilite i went to see it at the lowell auditorium on a big screen also hagler duran
There were tons of closed circuit fights widelyu available before TV PPV came into existence. The first TV PPV I can think of was Wrestlemania I. According to Wikipedia, Leonard-Hearns I was it
the first one i ever watched in the uk was at gants hill odeon cinema about 3 am in the morning , cost me £10 which was a lot of money for me to find then and it was larry holmes v gerry cooney.
i think on tv PPV, it was sugar ray leonard vs hearns. close circuit is a bit different as the first henry cooper and ali fight was on cinema in england.
oh i see. i used to have to go to the cinema all the time to see the big american superfights live, last one that i saw was leanord v hagler in 1987. sky came on 2 years later funny enough sky launched there first ever days coverage and tempted people to buy the dish and box (£400 in 1989 ) with the bruno v tyson fight. sky was free to start and went to £8 or £10 about a year later , albeit my memory of years all merge into one the older i get. cannot remember the first sky PPV but i think it never started until about 10 years ago, because i remember watching most of the big nigel benn fights live on ITV.
duran leonard I was broadcast by ontv. ontv and selectv were the predecessors to in home cable tv as we know it today
