i started boxing in february and i'm learning quickly and enjoying it. I've been offered to do my clubs exhibition show ten weeks from now. 3x3 rounds, no winner, no loser. I start sparring next week. My training so far has consisted of alot of padwork working on defence, offence, countering, movement etc. Alongside all the typical fitness training. Just wondering, from those of you who can remember their first fight. What would you say are the key areas to really nail going into the fight?. I know its just exhibition but still wana do well, and dont wana get dropped infront of la familia age 22, 5ft 9 165lbs
obviously the more time you've spent in the ring, the better. so keep a lot of sparring going if you havent already, get used to boxing a live opponent. Make sure you keep your fitness up, by running/interval training (no need for really long runs as its only a 9 minute fight) and eat as clean as you can. when it comes down to the fight. the adrenaline/nerves may get the better of you, although this happens to a lot of people. just try your best to stick to your boxing and dont let your training go out the window e.g. swinging wildly and going for the knockout. Nerves/feeling scared is perfectly normal, just keep it under control and it will give you the edge. All the best for your bout.
thanks john! appreciate the input, and yep - tailoring my fitness for max output within the 3:1 x 3 time frame. and to the other guy, i was simply asking people, from EXPERIENCE , what would be best to really focus on going into the fight. but you are correct, coach will have specific knowledge of my strengths & weaknesses
You do make me laugh! Why not just give a bit of advice share your knowledge and experience, he wasnt asking for a coaching session. lol
He needs a coaching session to figure out where he needs work. What's the point in saying "Well, when I had my fight I needed to work on footwork" How does that help this guy? I'm not trying to be a dick (it seems us Brits have a lot thicker skin than anyone else in the world). The answer is common sense and asking your coach what you need work on. Finding out what xxxx did pre-fight means jack **** to you and your specific needs.
You are going to get beat up, and beat up badly. It will hurt and it wont be pretty My advice? Take a dive the first punch he throws :deal
