Hey guys just had my first fight last night. I ended up winning and I am of course very happy about that. I didn't fight as well as I'd like though, although i didn't do as poorly as i thought upon watching the tape... Here is the video, let me know what you guys think. Thank you in advance for the comments... I'm the white guy btw

P.S. The man i fought was 4(3)-0-0 before we fought... Happy to be the first to stop him!
EDIT: I fought at middleweight (165). I weighed in at 161, and my opponent weighed in "a few pounds" heavy... but I decided to fight anyway because i had already been post-poned 2 weeks

i was typing longer reply, but computer **** itself. in short:

love your style. love the opening 3 punch combo. he's **** you're better.
keep your hands up. dont back up when getting brawled. move to the side, or clinch. NEVER back up in the ring.

you should be really proud. youve got a great style & look very natural.

Use your reach to your advantage, I noticed you tend to leave your jab out there. Snap that jab to keep him off of you, then once he comes back in make him pay with a right hand.

Andriy-Thanks yea that was the complaint my trainer had in the first round, if I am getting brawled w/ dont back up, he knocked me around a few times since backing up i was off balance. I wish i saw the longer reply!

    Kerozene-I am 6'3-6'4ish

Paloalto- Yea again another complaint from my trainer, since my lead hand was sort of chillin halfway out it let him come in on me a lot easier... I guess i was just nervous and using it as a way to keep him a little further away, well that backfired, should have just used the jab hahaha

Thanks for all your comments guys. I fight again saturday for the championship so keep em coming!

gratz on your first fight and good luck in next!

Yea agree with the jab. While it did seem to work keeping range it could be more effective landing with some snap...and still keep the range. I think if he had some decent countering skills you would have found that out in a hurry as there were a lot of openings with it left out there.

You looked real good. You seem to be in great shape, you didn't appear tired at all. you actually looked like you were having fun in there, which is abnormal for a guy in his first fight. Excellent job. Just a couple points for next time:

    1. Throw more punches. You're in great shape, and if you can afford to keep throwing, KEEP THROWING. You scored a lot of points when he was moving away from your combinations.

    2. He also scored most of his points when he rushed you with a combo. With your height, you'll see a lot of that in the future. Tighten up your guard when you see him coming, and step in to meet him halfway. This will smother his punches, and then you can tie him up or hit him with uppercuts.

    3. Use the uppercut. Get down to his height level, then spring back up and catch him under the chin. Even if you don't land them, it's scary as hell to have a guy throwing uppercuts at you. It shows that you mean business and are very interested in knocking him out.

    4. Don't be scared to fight inside. Tighten that guard up in there and make the guy pay for getting close to you. With your long arms, you can sneak in some nasty bodyshots, and you actually have an advantage on the inside since your hands are above his and your head is in no position to be hit. The only chance that guy had with you was to get in close, so by hurting him in there you can frustrate him and completely dominate the fight.

    5. Don't put your arms up on the ropes between rounds. You want blood flowing into them, so rest them down lower somewhere.

So yeah, do work on the inside, and throw a million punches. That's pretty much all I can say...you looked great. Can't wait to see the next fight.

  15. Great first fight, you look like a real natural. Its not my place to critique a fight that good, i say listen to your coach and team. Somethings going right.

Best of luck in future fights mate.
