First fight you can remember seeing properly.

"Saw" Tyson-Spinks when I was 4 years old. My Dad was supposed to be watching me at the house but he had to see this fight. So he brought me along to his friend's house and I only remember two things from that night. I remember my dad telling me to "touch nothing, it's not yours" and lastly I barely remember the fight. It was Tyson that stuck in my head. He looked so angry and muscular.

I never understood why my dad had to take me to the fight, he's not even a boxing fan. When I watch it today he just walks past the television. I guess that might be the "draw" that Tyson had on people in that day.

My first "full" fight was Tyson-McNeeley. It was free and on Fox. I was confused with everything that happened and went on my merry way playing Super Nintendo.

My first full fight that I actually finished was Frazier-Ali I when we got ESPN Classic about 3-4 years after the Tyson-McNeeley fight when I was a freshman in high school. That's what laid down the blueprints. In one fight I came to realize that there isn't always one champion, but sometimes they produce one hell of a match when two on 'em meet up.

My first full live fight (and this one set all the gears in motion for me) James Toney vs. John Ruiz. I was amazed how this former middleweight could use all his talent to make you forget how tubby he was. He just made John Ruiz look pedestrian in his tactics and that's what caught my eye. For the first time I saw the sweet science.

 

I doubt its the first fight I ever saw but I remember watching the Friday night fights with my older brother and seeing Emile Griffith KO'd Bennie the Kid Paret. I was very young but I remember seeing a picture of Paret the next day and he subsquiently died. It stuck in my head. I also remember Dick Tiger, I loved his name when I was a kid

 

Patterson-Chuvalo on tv in '65. I was made aware then of the concepts of "boxer" and "slugger"..and the match not just being about two guys beating each other up. I had some trouble watching it however, lol, because my uncle kept switching over to a basketball game, which I wanted no part of. I loved my uncle but he was annoying as hell to me because I wanted to watch that fight!

Lewis vs Bruno in 93,i was 8 years old,was the first full fight i ever seen,i had seen tapes of Ali and tyson but this is the first fight i seen..

 

Man, you guys are making me feel kinda old....it's been happening for a while but you are not helping me feel any younger today!!!

February 18 1974...Eugene Cyclone Hart vs Willie The Worm Monroe

My pop-pop always took me to fights growing up, and this was not the first...but is the first one I can actually run through my mind with details. He was a huge cyclone phan (after gypsy Joe Harris stopped fighting he became my pop-pops next fav)...and being an ornery kid I of course cheered for the opposite guy, and the Worm has been my favorite ever since!!! Monroe was the classic boxer and this was a classic boxer vs puncher match with the boxer being just a little to slick!!!

Been hooked ever since!!!

 

Phillyphan, I'd have to guess you've seen fights in the Blue Horizon? I've always wanted to see a fight there from the balcony. Seems like a great place to watch a fight.
