barry mcguigan - eusabio pedroza in 1985, 15 rounds. it was shown live by the bbc in england. i was captivated by the whole thing. it was the fight that got me into boxing, well that and the rocky films.
I could've gone to the Boston Garden to watch Freddie Roach vs Rafael Lopez back in June of 1982 one night after graduating from Boston College but I didn't. I decided to go hang out with some drop dead georgeous chick in Martha's Vineyard instead. This I donnot regret. Rumour had it that Freddie was tough but that was about it. No skill. Go figure!
Was ringside with my dad at the ol' Garden in '46 for the Sugar Ray Robinson- Tommy Bell fight for the vacant welter title.
Tyson/Spinks was the first fight I remember watching live, and my dad betting me $10 that Spinks didn't make it out of the first round. First fight I attended live was Hopkins/Taylor II
Boxing main events are always on Sunday arvo here which is the yank Saturday night, cause Aussies are from the future. Anyhoo - I watched heaps of fights in football clubs going back to Holmes period which is where I remember seeing the earliest fights.
Earliest fight i remember is Ali vs Foreman, was only a kid but still remember being at the pub with dad,and all the men went inside to watch it,stuck my head in the main bar and seen a bit of it.
mine was Pedro Decima vs. Paul Banke at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood in I think at the end of 1990 like October, but I am not sure exactly of the date. That would make it 20 years ago.
Must have been amazing to see Robinson fight, I'd love to have an experience like that, the best I can say I've been to see live is Bernard Dunne or Andy Lee
I thought TS meant live in person. My first fight I saw live on TV was Leonard-Hearns I when I was 9 years old. My first fight I saw live in person was unfortunately Williams-Cintron. I still demand a refund from Kermit for that ticket I paid.
