Funny you should mention Bernard Dunne, j. Got to know him pretty well -- helluva nice kid -- when he first came to California, before turning pro, training with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym.
Lat 80's for me... McGuigan V cruz, the night he lost the belt. i was 4 years old. I was lucky enough to see the the careers of the likes of Benn and Eubank. Also bruno to a certain extent.

can't remember it perfectly, but it was naz against some guy with camerflaged shorts on and he got his mouth pieced knocked out. it was a very long time ago but still remember some things about the fight. I must have been 7 or 8.
My first live fight was Froch Direll. That was slim pickings aswell but at least it went on for a while.
Yeah he's a real nice guy, I met him a couple of times, doubt he remembers me. He seems a genuine guy and is a very good pundit.
ali/holmes in 1980...........i was 8 yrs old.....never watched another fight until leonard fought lalonde:smoke
Bernard's absolutely genuine, j, but very proud 'n thin-skinned. Remember one funny incident: We were talking at his apartment in Santa Monica after leaving Wild Card one day. He was annoyed with a boxing writer that wrote something negative about him, getting more agitated by the moment. I told him the guy was nobody. It meant nothing -- forget it. He slowly simmered down 'n we started talkin' 'n laughin about somethin' else. After a while, I left 'n went home. About one in the morning, my phone rang (scared me half to death) It was Bernard, without so much as a hello: "How do I get hold of that boxin' writer. I'll fuukin' kill'm!"
First fight I ever watched live was in Managua Nicaragua with my uncle and my cousin. Roman Gonzalez was fighting Jose Luis Varela back in May of 2007. It was fun as I had VIP seats close to the ring. There were dinner tables setup and the VIP section was treated to free beer and food. Also, I remember a fight was started in one of the tables near me between an old woman and a drunk man! Wow. What a night. Good times. The first fight I watched in the U.S. was Miguel Cotto vs. Zab Judah. I also remember the card included Humberto Zoto vs. Bobby Pacquiao. Also, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fought the man who sent his father into retirement, Grover Wiley, and finished him in 3 rounds. Yes, it was another fun night on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade in June 2007. Unfortunately, I haven't been to any other fights but I'm sure hoping to go to one soon.
Around 1999, i dont remember the very first one but i do remember morales being the guy that sold me on it. I probably saw something when i was a kid who knows, my grandpa used to watch it, but i dont specifically remember any fight. He did use to box when he was younger and they had a speedbag he taught me how to make a fist and punch and all that. Not a real technical lesson, more like if any bullies pick on you, you make your fist like this and punch them in the face sort of thing.
