I've been boxing for two months now. My confidence level has gone up, my defense is decent. My technique is improving. And I was thinking about looking for my first fight just to get a feel for what its going to be like in the ring.

Because I know sparring and competing are different. I was thinking if I got into a match I could see where I really needed work and take it from there.

What do you guys think, wait or go for it.

I think that it would be way too early to be thinking about competing already.
But at the end of the day it should come down to what your trainer thinks so ask him.

Eh it all depends. If you can get a matchup with someone who's also been training the same amount of times as you it could be a good thing.]

But you'll probably be put in with someone else who's also having his first fight but has been training longer (average is around 6 months in my experience) and you could get destroyed which will just make your second fight harder and your confidence will be low.

I think this should be a question to your coach. These guys don't watch you train. You may be good, you may suck, these guys don't know.

like they said.. ask your coach.. but hey if your one of those guys that learns real fast call some local trainers with a show going on and you can ask them if if theres somebody with equal or less experience (but i doubt it) looking for a fight. i had my first fight at 3 months and won so its not out of the ordinary but i'd still wait until that 6 month period of experience, also if there are any tournements going on ask if they have a sub-novice division (2 fights or less) and then youd be able to get a few fights with boxers on the same level u r.. good luck!

What does your coach think? I'll just say this without meaning anything by it, but just so you know, 2 months is a pretty short time for a first fight. But you could be ready. That's why it's important to get your coach's input.

According to my coach, you should have 100 rounds of sparring before your first fight. I had like 30, and it was quite painfully obvious that I wasn't ready. But you might get in with a kid who absolutely sucks, so you never can tell.

Well he said that if he put me in the ring, he would put me in with someone else who hasn't had a fight yet. But if I wanted a fight he could get me one at this show thats happening in a few weeks.

I don't know, I'm still tossing it around in my head.

maybe you should spar more if you've only been training for 2 months.

Don't matter too much if the other guy hasn't had a fight. I was training for over a year before my first fight. I kinda wish I had gotten in with a guy who only had 2 months of training under his belt :patsch

So make sure that the guy has a similar level of training to yours. I wouldn't play around unless you're extremely good or he has under 3 months as well.

I mean either way though. Even if you were to lose, it wouldn't be a big deal. And I doubt your coach would put you in if he thought there was a chance of you being horrifically injured.

This basically says all. If you meet someone who trained longer than two months, and that's likely, you're doomed. That won't do miracles for confidence, if I were you I'd train a few more months.

If you feel your ready, go ahead because your the one who knows. I had my first 3 fights one month after i walked in the gym. i won my first one in 33 seconds. Noone is gonna know where your set mentally. So i say, if you feel comfortable letting it all hang out in the ring, go ahead
