That was published on the 20th, he fought Walcott 3 days later, how soon was that before the fight?

So is the claim that Marciano had to starve and kill himself to make 188, right?

I've read in a couple places that he carried a jar of honey around for his coffee.

Sounds farfetched but nothing surprised me anymore with respect to Marciano.

From what I have read honey wouldn’t have been the strangest thing in his luggage.

Yeah I read that as well. Who knew Rocky was running up such a high score with women? I didn't but I guess I was born yesterday. It took Mike Tyson coming along to break Rocky's totals. Of course Wilt Chamberlain's numbers are unreachable, like Joe D's 56 game hitting streak.

OK, so via several objective sources outside of Marciano's camp, we're seeing a boxer training in a determined, methodical, yet standard routine; running 5-6 miles, hitting a 150lb heavy bag, a good 90 minute workout, etc. He gets a lot of rest, which isn't a bad thing at all. If this is true - no 15 mile runs combined with 5-10 mile walks, and pounding a 300lb heavy bag, and running up mountains carrying boulders - does it make him a less remarkable champion? Can we get past the idolatry and hyperbole and just say, yeah, he trained really hard and had a lot of determination, without spreading a lot of hooey?

    300 lbs heavybag:

The boulders thing is an exaggeration of something he really did, which was toss a boulder across a ditch many times in the morning:

(You can also see him using another 300lbs heavybag at 0:57)

Call it hero worship, but I think those stories were nothing but rumors spread because Marciano was never with his wife

Rocky Marciano does not need all the phobic hero-worship and fairy tales, he was a great fighter.
The Rockistas would serve his legacy far better if they did not keep repeating exaggerated bull**** and let the facts speak for themselves.

OK, I'll give you the 270lb heavy bag - but so much of the rest is based on "Rocky is known to ... " Some of the sources are Rocky's uncle and Rocky's press agent, or "I know a guy -" ... hardly objective input. A picture or a video capture a moment in time and don't always reflect the truth. Example: in 1961, Sports Illustrated took a series of photos of (then) Cassius Clay shadowboxing in a pool, saying he did it to improve the speed and power of his punches. Only problem: it wasn't true. Clay/Ali only did it for the camera. Still, you find people today who insist that was part of his workouts. I could start a rumor tomorrow that Ali used to spar blindfolded to improve his reflexes ... give it enough time, it'll become canon. Why would I do it? Because people like to believe their legends are larger than life, and exaggerate to make their idols even bigger. Thing is, these people typically ARE pretty remarkable on their own merit. They're very determined and often succeed where others fail. But after a certain point, the fanaticism and hype - and subsequent defenses - become wearing.

Not here to step on any toes - believe what you want to believe, I have no skin in the game.
