At least a dozen men have met world champions, recognized by BoxRec, from both of these divisions...
but who was the first to do so?

I'm thinking Len Harvey, but I don't think he fought any HW champs recognised or otherwise.

    so maybe not...

... and I don't think he met a lightweight champ either!

Still, not a bad guess, as Harvey fought all the way from flyweight to heavyweight.

Another good guess, as he of course started out as a tiny flyweight, and ended up fighting both Dempsey and Tunney.
But he never fought a lightweight champion.

Walker met champs at welter, middle, light heavy and heavyweight - but not at lightweight!

Langford fought Joe Gans in 1903 and Jack Johnson in 1906, so he's certainly a strong candidate...
but there's actually someone who came before him!

No - he never met a heavyweight champion.
