he is 1-3. He has never gone the distance, won his last fight in a stoppage in the second round. We both kind of have the same style I hear so it should be an exciting fight. We are both in/pressure fighters.
It's your first fight and the nerves and adrenaline will be high. Try to actually use your skill and the things you've been working on all this time in training and not just get into a wild brawl with him. If he's never gone the distance and has lost 3 times he must not have any defense. So keep your hands up and use a bit of head movement and the fight should be easy. If he's a brawler throwing wide shots, throw yours tight up the middle.
Good luck, and don't worry about what HE'S bringing to the fight. He needs to worry about what YOU'RE bringing to it.
Thanks guys! Yeah from what I hear he is VERY wild and loves to brawl, but gasses quickly. I'm just gonna focus on road work and trying to land that big right hand of mine (either as an uppercut, strait or overhand) to make him realize that brawling is not going to get him that far. Pivoting out and scoring if he tries to rush in and a few other things and weaknesses of mine. Thanks for all you guys input! Much appreciated!
If he's been stopped 3 times in 4 fights then you have a great opportunity to **** **** up right here =D I'd suggest imposing your pressure on him from the get-go. Once you feel his power, decide whether you can risk it or not. If you can take his shots, then just pressure him into the ground. If you don't know whether you can take them, fight smart, keep close to him, jam up his punches, and look for big body shots. If you can take him into the third round you should be able to finish him off. Since you're a pressure fighter and he's a brawler, it's important for you to stay on him. If you give him space to come at you, you might end up on the end of his punches, which is no place to be. Be all up in his face where he can't get any power. If you're backing him up, you're doing it right. Don't forget to hit the body. You might drop him and at the very least you'll make him gas sooner, which means OPEN FACE SHOTS!!!!!! YES!
You would rather go against a guy who is having his debut with you and not know if his the next Roy Jones or go against a guy who cant even go the distance...
That is the time when you need to know and trust club coaches that they know how good there fighter is.
I sure hope you focused on your conditioning. I lost my first fight due to bad conditioning. Nerves will be high, so I believe you will have a tendency to overthrow. Try to be economical with your punches.
