So Ive been boxing about 10 weeks. It was my second sparring session (first at new gym). first i had a 30something year old guy who was lighter and shorter, the coach said 'just take it easy' because i was much stronger than him. i practiced my footwork, used my jab and tagged him quite a few times. the second guy was similar height, but tubbier (about my weight), but still i used my jab well and followed with the right well.

However, my real question is about a third guy. an inch shorter than me (he was 6'0) and shorter reach, in his early 20s (im 15) so he was powerful. i tried a jab but he countered (although it didnt really connect) so i tried waiting for the jab to counter. however, his handspeed was fast, he sort of pushed me in to the ropes and even though it was supposed to be straight punches, threw a few hooks, one which connected with my jaw. wasnt too bad, but it pissed me off, so i feinted a jab and got a good right that knocked his headguard to an angle. however, his handspeed worked too well and he bullied me in to a corner and laid in.

so i guess my questions are:
    - is it normal to feel like **** after someone sort of bends the rules, and gets the better of you?
    - wat should i do about his handspeed and hooks? im worried if my hands protect the sides of my head, he can get my stomach too much.
    - finally, is it normal for my hands to come forward (almost olympic stance style) because i think nerves started to make me more defensive and nervous?

my coach said well done, you did good, etc, hes been boxing for a year, but i felt like i could have given more.

You are over analyzing it. Don't worry about heights and weights and ages. Just spar and do what your coach says and listen to his feedback and ask the guys you spar with if there is anything they noticed that you could work on.

If YOU think YOU could have given more theres **** all any of us can do - give more.

Other then that, like Amy said, forget about all that stuff. Just go their looking to learn. Ok, your questions..

1 - Dont worry if someone had the better of you - theyre teaching you some of the refined points of boxing.
2 - At the moment, dont worry about his handspeed. Its because his more relaxed; later on blokes will outspeed you and you will have to come up with something, but, until then dont worry about it. And, the reason people spend ALOT of time doing ab exercises is so when they get hit in the stomach they dont have to drop their hands.. wear it if his shooting to your stomach.
    3 - I dont get this question.
