We've had a thread about this years ago. I think it's time for a new one. Please give examples.

    1. Heart/Desire Not willing to go through hell anymore to win.
    2. Chin/Punch resistance
    3. Power
    4. Legs/Stamina
    5. Accuracy/Timing sees the opening but can't pull the trigger anymore
    6. Defense getting hit by too many punches that he would have avoided in his prime
    7. Handspeed
    8. Other

I am not one of these "close thread" kind of guys, but it was my humble impression that common knowledge is that the legs go first, the power goes last, and everything else is in between somewhere.

There are exceptions but I'll list them in sequential order of deterioration...

    1. Handspeed...The vigor and quickness of youth is demonstrated no better in the boxing ring than by handspeed...

    2. Accuracy/Timing...Accuracy can be maintained for a period after handspeed has began to deteriorate through the use of compensation (knowing where your timing is, compared to where it was/ and knowledge of your opponent) and experience...

    3. Legs/Stamina...the importance of conditioning is unrivaled and in general has declined to an obvious point when a fighter approaches the end of his 30s...

    4. Defense...with failling stamina, speed, and accuracy... defense steadily worsens...

    5. Chin...If a fighter has shaky defense and sees a post prime in his career, it won't be without a strong chin...

    6. Power...Often when a fighter seemingly has little left, match makers will consider a his power, long considered the last thing to go...

    7. Heart...if the fighter has lasted long enough to see all of his other skills diminish, this attribute surely didn't fail him.

Reflexes, speed, and explosiveness are the first to go.

Accuracy doesn't necessarily go... its the speed. You can throw slower but still aim at an intended target.

I think Stamina can be maintained.. although legs obviously detoriate with age.

Heart stays the same until the day you die.

They say Power is the last to go.. I can't think of any notable examples either way. Tyson and Foreman seemed to retain serious power even as older fighters.

Older fighters have to become more intelligent to make up for thier lost abilities. I think that the fact RJJ has not adjusted his style due to his age is a great testament to this. He fights like he's 25 but has the abilities of his age.

Everyone is different so I think it varys although the common ones are usually the legs and stamina. Look at Roy Jones his stamina is way down and his legs dont move anymore but he still has incredible handspeed and quick reflexes. Sometimes the heart may go first then everything goes down hill from there. Some fighters get content with everything and lose hunger which is understandable when you become very successfull. Some great fighters get to a point where they seem to be going threw the motions.

i'd say stamina/legs...a fighter starts to throw less punches and not move as much... then all else goes after...some get lucky and still ahve power but mostly i'd say legs/stamina go first but everyones different

I said handspeed but really it's more reflexes and overall body speed in general, not just hand.
