Cheers! :good I need the fitness badly, I'm pretty certain I'll join now Appreciate all the advice lads!:bbb
Lads go!! Please i stress how much good it will do for you. You will feel great about yourself even though you'll be sore you'll learn so much from one session on all levels. Just be focused, have a open mind and don't go with any expectations other then learning and hard graft. Like the running club that started in Choi and is now on the other forum, I think this thread or a new one would be great actually. See how far people get and converse, seems like many want to get into sport.
I don't actually want to fight. I just wanna work the bags, speed ball, the skipping, ceiling to floor ball etc, learn all the techniques and then get sparring later down the line. Also, Id like to talk to people in the flesh about boxing... Football is my first love, but no **** knows anything about boxing. Even when I had PT boxing lessons in the gym. He didn't have a clue about boxing.... "Errrrr that Mayweathers supposed to be good ain't here?" **** me! No doubt the coaches will want me to turn pro once they see the power :good
No need to feel nervous, there will people there at all different levels so you will not look out of place. be completely honest with the trainers there so they can give you good advice, do not "man it" and tell them you live like a monk if you do not because you will get found out and look a tit. and remember whatever level of fitness and skill you are at it sometimes takes time for you personally to see real improvements but they will come, so stick with it because not every session is a great experience but stay positive. Good luck and keep up posted mate, you might inspire a few more to get up from behind a keyboard and do something. :good
dont have high expectations, im presuming your going to an amateur club so amateur boxing will be the main talking points not the pro's, 99% of the lads there wouldnt know half as much as the majority of us on here, there is one guy in my club who lets on he knows the pro game but he thinks samuel peters nickname is the black rhino and countless other errors, believe me to get your daily fix of boxing talk you will come back to ESB as you will hear lads talking that might not know their **** 100% and could start talking shite but because your new and dont wanna be stepping on toes and come across as a rude know it all you wont tell them how wrong they actually are, i remember we had the 3 cubans training in our gym before fights and some of the better boxers there were claiming how perez was gonna destroy the klit bro's and this was a good few years back. Just because some fellas are far more experienced boxers than you they automatically think they know more about the game when it aint true. Your gonna be biting your tongue so much you will have no tongue left id say:good
I started at 8 years old and quit at 17. The gym was a eye opener for me, learn a lot, not just boxing. Go for it! You'll get the odd tosspot, but every place has about 2!
You won't regret it. I've been going on and off for about 10 years, I absolutely love it and I don't even spar anymore (long story). It's addictive, once you've been to a boxing gym all other gyms seem boring. I'd recommend it.
In your first day, the first thing you must do is to ask the coach to let you spar with one of the guys there, preferably someone way more experienced than you (you won't learn anything sparring with other noobs), if you don't do it then you're a coward and you'd probably prefer to join a Tae Bo or Zumba gym instead and remain and armchair fan forever, because clearly you dont have the heart and mental toughness required for boxing.
