alright so my trainer had set me up this saturday with a professional fighter to spar...he didnt tell me the dudes name so i have no idea who he is...i am a heavyweight...i am 20yrs old.. i weigh 225 and stand 6'2" i have great footwork along with good agility and i posses a lot of speed with a very powerful punch...now i really dont know what to expect and to be honest im quite nervous especially since all i have been doing to this date is hitting hand pads with minor counter punching...i boxed to the head now for about three weeks but have not fully sparred...someone pleassse help me out and tell me what to expect i am a lil nervous especially since i havent been hit with a full blown right hand or hook to my face with someone my size...thanks!
look man you claim to be good footwork agility and lots of speed right? well then use it if you got it but then again how do you know you posses these great abilities if you have never been in a situation or situations to utilize them? actually how did you come to this belief in the first place? I am not knocking you man but after reading the above quoted text, I find it hard to understand the below quoted text Actually I will tell you what you should expect You will be nervous, you will be in a foreign place that you are not accustomed to, the pro you will spar has been there before so he knows what to do, he will sense that you are green, he then will either take it easy with you and allow you to learn, or he will rip you apart and you will learn that your great abilities are not that great and also that you need to work at it and spar for many rounds before you can make such boasts about yourself Look just take it easy, keep your hands up at all times dont try to do too many fancy things while sparring, keep it simple, just throw your jab often, once comfortable with it try a 1-2 combo, but always bring your guard up after each punch or combos look for signs in his body language that might indicate he is about to throw a punch, if detected make sure your guards are up and tight and also that your elbows are tight against your body and one last thing keep your head moving in a non rhythm like way Good luck
i didnt make this up on my own i promise u that...my trainer is a retired professional who was new jersey middleweight champ back in 79' trust me im not one of those tools that make stuff up and claim to be the next ALI because i am only here to learn and i am only telling u guys what i was told...but thanks for the reply i appreciate it!
How many drills have you done? Can you defend yourself? Are you easy to hit? You have a right to be nervous if you don't have a good answer for these questions.
