The series promises to be ****. The only reason to watch is to cheer on Paul Smith and see how the golden oldies of Soliman and Bika do against the up and comers. The idea of getting rid of most of the guys before they had chance to fight was stupid, why not just ick genuine super midddles who are decent and in shape and get on with letting them box. I also hate the entire emotional bollocks that the programme keeps trying to push on us instead of letting us see the boys training and getting on in the house. The worst part though was the fight although the constant plugs for Mora/Golden boy/ **** comedian was annoying. I was under the illusion that they were going to show the full fights and not have the sound affects. I turned the programme striaght off when the ko blow came (what a ****ing joke that piece of music/ camera work and slow motion). It ruined the show and all credit it hoped to achieve. Nothing is more brutal and dramatic than watching a fight so the inclusion of this was sickening. I love boxing and will carry on watching the show but will turn of when the guys enter the ring, or maybe before as I also hate all the bull**** letting the friends and family in changing rooms to pull on my heart strings. What are peoples opinions on the show?
I think it'll be the best Contender yet, it certainly has the best standard of boxers. The rest of the stuff is just to sell it to non boxing fans, a nessarcery evil I'm afraid....
I think its great. More shows like this will get more people interested. I agree that they could expand upon the living together bit...
I dunno, it just means more dumb boxing questions from my mates...I had to talk one out of putting a lot of money on Manfredo vs Calzaghe because of the Contender. He was convinced that coming second at 154 on the TV show meant he would be too good for JC at 168.atsch
Only EIGHT fights in the whole show? What a crap set up!! The last two series had fifteen fights and the winner had to win four fights. In this series the winner will only have to win three. Furthermore one winner will not progress to the semis if it is deemed he didn't win 'well enough'. What if he was facing a stronger opponent?
i really hate that scumbag sergio mora, hes got 1 hell of a mouth for a fighter who's got gift decisions over manfredo, Ishe smith and has a predominately low KO % against a mostly below par opposition
maybe they thought the original format tested the attention span of the average viewer. i agree though. they should have kept all 16 fighters, had 2 fights per show for 4 weeks, and then done quarters, semi's and the final. nevertheless, i'll still be watching. hope coddrington doesn't win though...seems a bit of a nob really.
I really hate most things about the show but I will watch it because of the standard of fighter and Paul. I can not stand Mora. He acts like a big shot and he has done nothing, the likes of Soliman and Bika have got much further in the careers. Codrington is a **** head who I amlooking forward to seeing destroyed.
