i think fitz carried the weight a bit better but 175 is a decent size for langford (not the overweight, 200 pounder that came in for fights during the last quarter of his career). i think fitz cuts him up with precise shots on the way in for the first half, until langford begins closing the distance and outmuscling him in close. langford is far stronger and gets the better of the clinches, grinding him down and making way for his own shots. over 15 rounds, i see sam edging it with a knockdown or two for good measure
Who is to say about the winner of that bout ? But there are some opinions of fighters of that time. Sandy Ferguson a tough heavyweight who fought Jack Johnson 5 times, and most everybody else in th early 1900s Sparred with both men. In an interview I have ,before he passed away in 1919,he said that Fitz with his body punching, would have beat Sam Langford. For what it's worth !
