Langford would be able to force his style upon Fitzsimmons rather than vice-versa. I do think when pressed Fitzsimmons did att imes have a tendancy to move and reset himself, so you could imagine langford coming in and staying on the inside letting his hands go. Dwight Muhammed Qawi style.

 

True. It's only in the last 10 or so years that "half-caste" has been deemed offensive.
I predict the current term "mixed race" will certainly go the same way, since it implicitly supposes the concept of racial purity ! (I'd argue we are ALL mixed, a mixture of our parents' seperate genes at the very least).

I dont know who'd win out of Fitz and Langford, but I remember reading somewhere that Langford had the utmost respect for Fitzsimmons as the "original" giant-killer power-hitter. Joe Gans thought Fitz was "the master" too !

 

I do hope those who find half-Caste offensive never come to the midlands, for their sake.

Langford by brutal knockout early. Fitz's whole style was to counter one blow at a time. he never fought a man willing to put combinations together. It would force Fitzs to change his whole style around, which was centered around bareknuckle boxing techniques, rather than modern boxing.

 

Mr Ketchel certainly had heavyweight ambitions to rival those of Mickey Walker.

Totally agree. From the very little footage available of both these guys it seems neither one like fighting off the back foot. Would be one hell of a fight and no way does it go the distance.

 

Is 'half-caste' deemed as offensive these days?? Show's how out of touch I am - everyone uses that term where I come from?? Blacks and whites - nobody seems bothered about that - I'll have to be careful about using that when I'm passing through your town then? Ridiculous

Back to the subject - I think Sam beats the tar out of the blacksmith - think Sam would put too much pressure on and probably stop him in maybe 10 or 12 rounds :happy

 

The film of Langford is very limited and hard to see up close ... by all accounts he was a fine defensive fighter.

 

i haven't heard the term for years.i don't know whether its offensive or not but it certainly sounds it.
