Just re-reading an account of the Fitz v Corbett fight.Fitz claimed he dislocated his right thumb in the middle of the first round .Good going for him if he did.
Interesting, we have full first round in good quality (thanks to klompton): This content is protected
Fitz said he tried a right to the head coming out of a clinch as Corbett fired a right to his body.Fitz's punch landed on the side of Corbett's head causing the dislocation of Fitz's thumb.
Interesting, I can't find this moment on video but we have only half of the round available. I wish klompton posted his full version of the fight, with such a clarity and more rounds available we could get so much more from this fight.
The next day report in The Morning Appeal (form Carsen City) said he broke his thumb in the first round.
Obviously Fitz accidentally got his thumb caught in Corbett's thong and tricky Jim spun around injuring it. This can be seen at a 5:15 mark of the film, with Fitz backing away, shaking his hand. just kidding.
The report I have says it was a dislocation.I did it to my left thumb and the thumb and surrounding part came up twice the normal size.Fitz must have had some pain threshold.
It's not really a surprising level of disagreement in the reports. With injuries it can be worth looking the reports in the following days, but I hadn't gotten around to that
