I'd pick FItz. This would be wild, I'd love to see it. Probably a ton of knock downs. Two things really stand out to me with Fitz, he was very good at recovering and was a very clinical finisher. Patterson was fast dangerous, and could get off the canvas to win too though.
FItzsimmons would counter him with a right hand after Patterson leaps in with a left hook and misses, Patterson would be trying to land that gazelle left hook and Fitzsimmons is a great counterpuncher, leaping left hooks are the wrong thing to do against Fitzsimmons at heavyweight Patterson probably wins, but at 175 Fitzsimmons would win
Patterson by KO. Faster combinations, throws about 3x more punches per round, and had very good skills. Maybe if somehow Fitz avoided Patterson until he gassed could I see Fitz scoring a knockout but that’s a stretch.
I would give Floyd Patterson the better chance but Bob Fitz had the power and toughness to turn things around
Uhh just watch the footage we have of Fitz. Him and other guys of his day threw like 10-20 punches per round MAX because they fought for 45 rounds.
Wow, we're all quite varied on this and wildly too. My first thought when I saw the matchup, I muttered to myself, "Like matching Floyd with a statue." So you can see where I'm headed. In this fight, speed kills. I see a fast - possibly 2 rounds - KO for Floyd.
That could be true but I’ve never seen Fitz fight in a short scheduled fight. He fought Lang set for a 20 rdr and didn’t really have much different of a work rate than he did against Corbett. Not to mention Corbett was able to put him on the canvas...
Fitzimmons usually ended his fights before 5th round. Fitzsimmons was 45 years old against Lang and we only have last rounds of this fight available.
So you're judging his work rate in a shorter distance fight, based on having not seen him in a short distance fight? Do you not see the issue there?
