I don't think Ali really had any questionable victories until after Manilla, and then his legacy was already secured. Well, the Liston rematch, but Ali had already made his case in the first fight. Otherwise he only had two close wins (Jones and Norton II) until he was a washed up, uninterested 34-year old with his legacy secured. And neither of those two wins have ever been particularly controversial. The real controversies came after Manilla. Louis also had a couple of close fights before he got old, as did Robinson, but I never hear this gripe about them.
dude has no idea what hes talking about .....his teeth arent there neither .............jim jeffries more powerful then george foreman ..................ya sure dude with no teeth:-(
ali defintly beat norton the 2nd time / and if jimmy young didnt stick his head outside the ropes a million times he woulda won.... but he fought like a idiot / today young woulda gotten a dq for that tactic over and over again
I find hilarious that some people believe that he used to pull his punches because he was afraid to kill the opponent, yeah sure
i strongly doubt he hit harder than foreman, but there have been a number of fighters who lost their finishing edge after killing men, so it can't be completely discounted.
no, my mistake, been a long day. I didn't mean it to read like it can't be discounted that he didn't hit harder than foreman either, it more or less can but he was a physically gifted too, I should have made it 2 sentences. I still don't see how the idea of a fighter pulling punches can be hilarious when we know that other fighters did.
Ali had more arguable "gifts" going his way, than "robberies" going against him, I think that's where it's valid to point out he had questionable decisions. With most fighters it kind of evens out, with Ali it swung the numbers his way. Also, his second championship reign was extended with those iffy decisions, with makes it look more impressive on paper. But ask Pachilles what I'm really saying.
If he thinks someone other than Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time then fine, and sure Ali got the benefit of a couple of dodgy decisions. However the man can't be given any credibility whatsoever for the simple reason he refers to Ali as a bum.
