The S6 had problems right from the very beginning, but let's leave that aside, and take a look at how to move forward in a meaningful way.

Bute recently announced his intentions to move up to 175. Also, they left him out because including him would have cost to much. Nothing has happened that would diminish Lucian's dollar value. Bute is looking for a fight with Pascal, and that would be the biggest and best Canadian fight that could possibly happen anytime soon. I don't think Showtime could get Lucian's attention at this point.

Pavlik was also excuded for financial reasons. Like Bute, including him would have cost to much. However, his dollar value took a huge hit last April. Showtime might be able to get his attention if they could pay Vera enough to go away, and convince Kelly that his loyalty to HBO isn't as valuable as he thinks it is.

So, with this in mind, what if Showtime could rearrange this thing so that the next round of fights looked like this:

    Froch/Abraham,
    Ward/Johnson,
    Pavlik/Green,

It really does not matter who Ward fights next. He has enough points to advance even if he loses. He'd beat Johnson by decision, and advance with 6 points.

I expect Abraham to knock Froch out because of Carl's bad habits. AA advances with 6 points.

Pavlik would knock Allan "Are my shoes on the right feet" Green out, and we would all get to see it happen on international television!

Carl Froch would still advance because Green and Johnson would have zero points.

The final four would look like this:

#1 Ward, 6 points, 3 wins, no losses.

    #2 Abraham, 6 points, 2 wins, 1 loss,

#3 Pavlik, 3 points, 1 win, no losses.

    #4 Froch, 2 points, 1 win, 2 losses.

    The semi finals would be:

    Ward/Froch
    Pavlik/Abraham

Ward and Froch have yet to meet in the tourney. Pavlik/Abraham wouldn't have the mystique about it that it had a few years ago, but I think most people would still like to see it.

    Good idea, or not?

Bute is only moving up b/c right now there is nobody for him to fight at 168. The tournament should be cancelled. Pavlik will still get a shot at these guys. He could fight Dirrell early next year if he wanted too.

Pavlik is still on for HBO, no?

He'd make a decent replacement, a good big name.. but unfortunately I see him leaving just as fast as he's entering.

That's pretty stupid! Have ever seen Allan "I robbed Emmet Linton at Gun Point" Green fight? Pavlik would starch his ass, and we'd get to watch!

So Froch has a win over Dirrell, goes toe-to-toe with Kessler and just gets edged out in what could have gone either way, and steps in the ring with Abraham. Yet, Pavlik comes in, gets an easy fight with Green, and suddenly finds himself in a semi-final? **** that. He's done nothing to deserve that.

Sorry Boo, I didn't really read your entire post, only read Pavlik and initially thought he'd make for the replacement.

Ofcourse he should be able to dust off Green in decent fashion, still.. do you think Showtime could potentially stirr the pot up by matching him with Allan Green, and not Andre Ward?

Glenn Johnson - Andre Ward would be an ugly, ugly boring fight.. don't know if they want to put it on to be honest.

My guess is that Sakio Bika will have the spot, and Andre Ward will beat him in yet another quite boring decision win.

Bute and Pavlik fight on HBO on a fight by fight basis. Arum guaranteed Pavlik 5 fights on HBO in his most recent contract, but that's on Arum. HBO did not guarantee Kelly anything. Furthermore, I do not understand KP's loyalty to HBO. This is the network that hand picked him to make Miranda look good:patsch

Froch is the man who drew the short stick in terms of brackets, yet strangely he's the one tugging on for the fights to happen. Much respect and kudos to a man who makes for a great face of boxing in Carl Froch.

Carl Froch has gone from one of my least liked fighters to one of my most liked. Still think he's going to lose against Artur, but hopefully I'll be able to shake his hand after the fight and tell him he's an assett to the sport of boxing, which he is.

It will make for an ugly fight, yep.

God knows what other options there really are for Showtime, Sakio is the most natural option as he had previously been mentioned as a replacement. And my guess is he'd be easy to sign.

I've never been an Abraham or Froch fan, but both men are rapidly gaining my respect. With all these fighters going home to lick their wounds, Froch and AA keep soldiering on.
