exactly what do fans want to see .... Crolla fight Flanagan or do they want to know who wins a politics war over splits. Crolla says he wants a world title .... there is one a couple of miles away from his very house, if he is true to his word he will force Eddie to get it made regardless of splits. 50/50 get it on the real money is the fight/fights AFTER this for both fighters
Well yes but to ignore the business side is pretty unrealistic. Fights do not get made just because the fighters want it. Fighters want to get paid and know their worth. Crolla could fight Campbell and still get paid well. He doesn't need Flanagan.
I understand that, but I think too many people have the opinion "well why should he fight X when he could fight Y for more money" as if the boxer's purse goes to them. It really frustrates me. I actually see a guy on twitter saying he hopes Crolla takes the Campbell fight instead of Campbell because of the money. Like he HOPED for it. I think that's weird as **** and it's a prevalent attitude among a lot of fans, which I think goes some way to stopping fights like Crolla-Flanagan from happening.
Crollas very own words after the Burns fight were that he wants a world title to reward all the Manchester fans who have supported him. Flannagan is his ticket to that, unless of course he and Eddie dont think he can win it. As I said the real money would then follow after he wins the title
Yes but he still needs to get paid. 50/50 doesn't bother me but I can fully understand why Hearn/Crolla will say no to that kind of deal.
Think you've missed my point. Since the BT deal,Frank can now give his fighters similar levels of exposure to Hearn and sky. We've have only just seen Frampton/MTK choose Frank ahead of Hearn...I think Eddie even confirmed that frank offered them more money. Warrington left Hearn..again offered more money- he's now fighting a final elimination for Selby which for whatever reason was a fight that Hearn couldn't deliver. As for Saunders, he's just about to make a fortune for a fight live on HBO in the states. And whilst I haven't got the figures to back it up as I'm sure you haven't either, there is no way that Crolla got paid more to challenge Linaries twice then Saunders got for fighting Lee for example. I also doubt, Brook got the money you seem to envision he did to get battered by GGG which effectively finished is career...the next fight Spence put him in dress
And I think you missed mine, Hearn and Sky know how to promote a fighter and raise the profile of that fighter, I don't see that from the other side. Even the simple production of an event looks dated and basic. You are guessing, I am stating facts, you don't know that in 12-18 months FW and BT will have cracked it, right this minute Hearn, Matchroom and Sky are number 1 in the U.K. I heard all this when Boxnation started, it was a dedicated boxing channel that would better Sky boxing. You argument/point is based on what you think they will do and not what they are actually doing. My point is, Hearn can sit down with a young fighter and say "look what I can do for you, look at him and him and look what they have earned and achieved" instead of saying "if things go well then in 12-18 months we might be on a level with the others". As for Warrington, well.. wasn't he given the opportunity to fight for a world title against Selby and turned it down. Yet he is now fighting an eliminator for a fight he already turned down, that is going backwards. So Saunders is about to make a fortune on HBO but Brook didn't earn that much for a PPV event he headlined that did great numbers? You sure? Well if you can doubt Brooks and Crolla's purses then I'll doubt BJS purse that he hasn't even earnt yet. We will see if BJS actually fights, he seems to pull out of quite a few fights or they seem to get cancelled. Also we will see how he gets on in the US on a GBP bill, it could all go very wrong and then what happens? Golovkin, Linares and Klitschko had to come to the UK and Saunders has to go to the US, a great promoter will get you every advantage he can, home advantage is very important sometimes, so we will see.
Golovkin came over here as he was attracted by the idea of PPV for an easy nights work - he couldn't give a monkeys if he was fighting Brook or whoever fast Eddie chucked into the ring because he couldnt do a deal with Eubanks ..it was hardly great promoting..hearn was was being the boxing equivalent of a Dell Boy flogging cheap tat at the market. Hopefully Brook did make mega money as it was boarderline negligence from Hearn and Sky allowing that fight and could have ended very badly. Interms of BTs pre / studio production, this is almost second to none so that's nonsense imo - frank needs to catch up with matchroom Interms of the feel of the events but that has zero relevance to the fighters. Warrington hasn't gone backwards thats Just not true.he was never mandatory for Selby. if he wins Saturday, frank will have Selby by the nuts especially as he has also got frampton which are Selbys 2 most realistic chances of big money. I partly mentioned Saunders as in my opinion he has been brilliantly promoted by Frank. As we all know, Billy is an arsehole but frank has got him, British and eventually the World title. He has dealt with all of Billy BS/inactivity managed to keep the belt and is now possibly cashing him out with a massive payday on HBO in Canada - brilliant promoting of a difficult character and something Hearn would not have had the expertise or patience to deliver.
Yes Golovkin came here because the money was too good to turn down, that just highlights the difference in levels again, Hearn can attract/pay P4P fighters or elite fighters (whatever you want to call them) to these shores. When was the last time FW brought an elite/top fighter over here? Recently Hearn has brought over Golovkin, Klitschko, Spence Jr, Linares (twice), British boxing fans are watching these fighters live, it means something, it is a big deal. BJS (The Champion) has to travel to Canada to fight Lemieux. Liam Smith another world champion (at the time) had to travel to the states to fight Canelo. You can say it was/is about money but personally I'd want my fighter to have every possible advantage if I'm looking long term and home advantage is huge, always has been. The feel of the event and even location is very important for a number of reasons, gate money because obviously more seats should lead to more income, atmosphere, if it's a great atmosphere with large numbers then people will come again, it's an event, a night out, a memory, and yes it might be more aimed at "casuals" or boxing/football fans these days but if it sells well then fighters get paid well. Right now JW, Did Warrington turn down a Selby fight? Yes So he didn't have to have an eliminator, he was offered it on a plate and said "No thank you". Whatever his reasons (debatable) he was offered that fight. If you think now fighting an eliminator to get the fight you was offered originally isn't going backwards then I can't help you. Assuming Warrington wins he will now get a mandatory purse/split, before he was offered a better purse. There is no guarantee FW wins a purse bid for a Selby fight anyway, so Warrington could be on a mandatory split away from home and before it was an offer to fight Selby with home advantage and better money. How is that not going backwards? So FW is cashing out BJS? He is 28 years old, unbeaten, a world champion and that's great promoting? No Golovkin fight, No Canelo fight? No unification fight? How big is this "massive payday"? What is BJS purse for this?
Please mate, we're going around in circles. We have already established that up until the BT deal frank hasn't had the platform to deliver major fights. As per my original post, it is therefore unfair to compare him to Hearn for the last 6 years who has had the power of the sky machine behind him- we can start to do that from now and maybe we can reopen this thread or similar ones in about 12 months. Some of the examples you use are pretty silly (as you will probably will say about mine also). Do you honestly think Canelo the biggest star in world boxing is going to fight Liam Smith in the UK? HBO / GB have clearly offered a massive purse to get the title so it's a no brainer to go over for Billy. I called it a potential cash out as Billy could very easily get ironed out or done on points so if that happens at least do it for big money as their doing - if he wins happy days onto the next pay day. As I said earlier, there is no way that Eddie Hearn would be able to deal with BJS/ he would have given up long ago. Have you forgotten that frank recently brought over Gervonta Davis without the need for a purse bid? Yes, he was a mandatory but so was Spence for Brook l which Eddie was only able/willing to do because he was lumping it on box office. In fact anything of any half decent note is limped on box office - promoting AJ is the easiest job in the world so going on about Klitschko coming over is hardly a big deal. He was 41 years old and out of options- he was even willing to come over for Fury in a fight not even a quarter of the size before Tyson went awol with his BS. As for Linaries coming over to beat up Crolla twice again I don't accept it was great promoting from Hearn. This whole Jorge thing came off the back off him coming over to fight Mitchell (again on PPV the only way Hearn can get big things done). He beats him up, then Hearn comes calling for a 'unification' with Crolla so of course Jorge was more then willing to bash him up for easy money and when Hearn came calling again for a waste of time rematch then of course Jorge probably couldn't believe his luck- it's not great promoting at all really Crolla had no chance and the public where treated to a pathetic miss match. As for Warrkngton the fact is for whatever reason Hearn couldn't get the deal done. In fact Selby did/dosent appear to want anything to do with fast Eddie. Whatever way it happens if Warrington wins Saturday the fight one way or another gets done.
I’m not so sure. I think it’s a great fight. I feel Flanagan is levels above Crolla and would probably beat Campbell. If Linares performs how he did against Campbell he will lose.
This may sound terrible, does not make me look very knowledgeable...... But I have never seen Flanagan fight. Says a lot about his promotion
Brilliant post couldn't agree more. I honestly believe if both fighters spent a couple of hours walking around Manchester City centre on a Saturday afternoon Flanagan would be lucky to get stopped twice, whilst Crolla would be mobbed. I actually believe if they fought each other in Manchester it wouldn't sell out and 95% of people there would be supporting Crolla.
