Flash Elorde - Underrated ; Sandy Saddler - Overrated

Flash is underrated I feel, I do agree there..But Saddler pretty much deserves the accolades he receives.

 

And the point is supposed to be proven by posting a vid of Saddler's (a past prime version at the tail end of his career) TKO victory over a prime Elorde?

I think what you meant to say was:

Flash Elorde- Filipino; Sandy Saddler- Some obscure guy that isn't Filipino, therefore he must not be any good.

Fail.

 

Saddler was way past his best and still was able to beat Elorde.

if anyone is overrated here isw Elorde who lives of his win over a way past his best Saddler.

 

Exactly Saddler was at the end of his prime when he beat Elorde. I do give credit to Elorde for beating him the first time but Saddler was not at his best.

 

Elorde was still losing to many fighters on the domestic scene at the time of this fight.I'm not sure he matured into a world class fighter until a few years later, though he obviously had the tools already.

 

If anything Saddler is underated.It could be argued he was the best feather Champ.

 

Both these guys were great fighters. Isn't is possible that they are rated about right?

Saddler vs. Arguello at Featherweight would have been a WAR. I would love to have seen that (in a time-machine bout of course. Alex would have been way too young to have been allowed in the ring in the 1950's). Two amazingly powerful featherweights.

 

I don't understand how one could say an all-time great like Sandy Saddler is overrated. You don't put up the numbers he did and be called overrated - and if people say he's overrated, they honestly don't know boxing, or they do, but choose to be willfully ignorant about it because Elorde is their favorite fighter.

Let's compare, shall we?

Sandy Saddler -

144 wins, 16 losses, 103 KO's, has victories over the likes of Willie Pep, Joe Brown, Jimmy Carter, and Elorde.

Gabriel "Flash" Elorde -

87 wins, 27 losses, 33 KO's, and while he beat a lot of top ranked opponents, got pasted twice by Carlos Ortiz.

Therefore, in my opinion, Saddler > Elorde, even though both are great fighters.

 

Asero has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. It really doesn't get much more complicated then that.

 

Definitely think Elorde under-rated. I think Ring Magazinehad him in top 30 or 40 fighters of last 80 years.

 

Pretty sure he was towards the bottom of that list to be honest.
