I've got Elorde on points at Featherweight but at super featherweight Arguello stops him late. Thoughts?

This is a good match up. Style wise you'd have to favour Elorde, and I think Flash actually accomplished more at 130 than ETM did. He was extremely good there.

Arguello fought out-boxers with the mindset that no matter how many rounds they won, it wasn't gonna mean much when he knocked them out. That's very dangerous vs guys as cultured and artistic as Elorde, and not to mention as tough. But Arguello could definitely land on him, and I have no doubt he can take him out if Ortiz could. I'm always torn on whether Arguello was better or worse vs southpaws. Because he seemed to not like how easy they could hit him, but he also seemed to be able to hit them incredibly easily. I think Arguello gets pretty soundly out-boxed for most of the early stages, but comes on with increasing effectiveness as the fight progresses. By the last three rounds I think he'll be in control and setting Elorde up. If Elrode survives, he could win a close decision but I think Arguello gets him out of there.

So Elorde could be a good underdog pick but gun to my head, I take Arguello by KO in the last three rounds.

Alexis Arguello had one of the best right hands in the history of the sport ....and if you look at his record, the man literally ate southpaws for breakfast

Mr. Ganigan wants a word with you. He's on that table at the back with Jose Luis Ramirez.

I just watched that fight the other night, been on a bit of an Arguello binge.
Have you seen the fight with James Busceme, another southpaw? Arguello did him in with left hooks ,but that guy was tough! The shots he took and didn't go down.

I have, Arguello was the fifth fighter who had a storied career that I've seen every title fight of. The others being Duran, Morales, Holyfield and Pacquiao.

Busceme was the guy from Texas, right? Pretty skilled, very tough. I thought Arguello gave him a pasting in honesty, but it was an excellent performance with the left as you say. Second to his rematch with Escalera in that regard, IMO. Arguello had quite a few issues with Bazooka Limon and Boza-Edwards for me to say he ate southpaws for breakfast, as if they're nothing. He tended to get hit a lot by them.

Let’s be honest...Alexis Arguello got hit a lot for a fighter of his caliber....he was an offensive genius...not a defensive one

The Ramirez fight was just an off night...Arguello beat better fighters and Ramirez loss to lesser fighters

    10 defenses, not 14.

He got them fighting a slightly higher caliber of opponent than Sammy Serrano managed to build an even bigger stack against.

Now, I rate Elorde above a guy like Serrano just based on what I see on film, even in the losses. His resume is pretty overrated, though. I feel like he became a significant historical figure for other reasons, excellent fighter though he was. I was joking with my first post, obviously.
