Such an informed synopsis, NOT!!! At the time Floyd proposed a bout with Mosley who blamed his dental work for not taking the fight (see after the Vargas II fight), he earlier paid to get out of his promotional deal with Arum and pretty much not wanted anything to do with him. Thats when Arum's PR of "The most Feared welterweight in the world" started.

At the same time they were in negotiations with Spinks (someone who I still think would give May a hard time but would lose) but since the general public seems to be enamored with ROCK'EM, SOCK'EM brawls, that was scraped. Considering Brian Kenny totally criticized the Judah fight and Baldomir was coming off a win over Gatti, it was decided to fight for the linear championship.

You've obviously seen the fight, earlier in the fight Mayweather was countering what Baldimir threw ridiculously with right overhand counters and uppercuts. He later had hand issues (which he mentioned in the inteview afterwards) which toned down his attack.

As mentioned in this thread later that year Margarito on the other hand was headed towards a loss in his fight with Clottey where Clottey experienced hand issues and then we finally got rid of this overhyped, average at best dude when Williams disposed of him last summer which Arum is still actually trying to get you to believe Margarito was robbed. Yet folks say floyd should still work with this piece of sh*t??

Nevermind that the Baldomir fight was for $8,000,001:D with a percentage of the PPV sales which earned him a total of $10,000,000

So lets see now, sign to fight with Arum for $8 mill where I'm CERTAIN Arum would have had an "option(s)" clause in there JUST as Floyd already paid to get out of his promtional deal (which would have been done in vain) to fight for a little WBO trinket..

Or control the negotions and get the PPV upside of the fight and the linear/RING BELT fight with Baldimir??

    Choice sounds easy to me..

    I'm a fight fan.

Margarito vs Mayweather = Good fight.

    Baldomir vs Mayweather = Garbage.

Despite De La Hoya's insistence that money was not a factor, the Mayweather-De La Hoya bout set the record for most PPV buys for a boxing match with 2.4 million households, shattering the record of 1.99 million for Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson II. Around $120 million in revenue was generated by the PPV, which set another record. With the percentages factored in, Oscar De La Hoya ended up earning $58 million for the bout, the highest purse ever for a fighter. The previous record was $35 million, held by Tyson and Holyfield. Floyd Mayweather earned about $35 million for the fight.

I'm a fight fan also. I would like to see Margarito/MAyweather. But as a business man you gotta get the money in that sport.
That's pretty much the only thing that matters when you hang em up. Legacy is nothing.
Floyd has a networth estimated at 150 million dollars. I don't think he should fight anyone else period.

I'm a Floyd fan but that $150 million number seems quite large. I heard $100 million (gross) and I still question that.

At the US Black Journalist conference where Floyd was on a panel with Bob Arum and Don King (where they tried to tag team him) Floyd mentioned he made more in his last two fights (DLH and Baldomir) than his career with Arum. I heard a figure of upwards (with the re-tally of the PPVs) that Mayweather's share was $35 million. Plus $10 (from Baldomir) thats, $45 mill total. This is coming from his mouth.
