I always thought Collins lost the second fight against Eubank. He would start each round by literally running at Eubank but he was too aggressive and missed most of the shots he was throwing, Eubank did cleaner tidier work. I thought that was a robbery at the time but Collins was extremely popular and got the win. Anyway that's for a different thread.

In the recent gloves are off with the SMW's Collins asked RJJ about that missed opportunity and tbf Jones doesn't give a solid reason why the fight didn't happen. He gives a vague response.

Although there is an argument that Collins ducked Calzaghe, also discussed on the gloves are off.

I remember seeing McCallum talking about Hagler ducking him. Sometimes for whatever reason certain fights don't happen, could be ducking or sometimes $hit happens. I don't think Hagler, Jones or Collins ducked anybody

Collins isn't English bub. Collins lone losses came as a road warrior traveling abroad to very good fighters. He had no issue with traveling unlike say someone like Ottke who wanted nothing to do with Jones.

    Good post.

    Nobody ducked anybody.

Collins could call out whoever he wanted to, the truth is, he was more than happy to fight Eubank twice in 1995, and Benn twice in 1996. It was only after those fights that his team made Roy an offer. And when they made that offer, Roy was already in camp to face Griffin at LHW, with an eye on fighting Hill afterwards for all of the LHW belts.

The guy who made this hate thread needs strapping to a bed for his own safety. He’s completely incapable of debating the subject. All he can do is spew venom which keeps landing him a ban. He’s been banned 3 times within the last 3 months.

Where’s the logic in thinking that Roy feared Steve Collins?

Roy gave his attorney the go ahead to make the fight in 1999, until his promoter talked him out of it and informed him that HBO didn’t want to air the fight.

I respect the fact that he did really want to fight Roy, but you can’t just look from his perspective.

Collins is a legend in his own mind.

The truth is, although he was a warrior with a great chin, he lost all of his big early fights, and his claim to fame was beating a faded Eubank and a washed up Benn.

He had no major belt, and there was no demand stateside for Roy to fight him.

The U.S. public wanted fights against King’s fighters and Dariusz and Hill.

If Roy had have feared Collins, he’d never have fought and pursued the guys that he did. It’s just nonsense.

Collins had a fight with Calzaghe lined up with a date and everything. And he pulled out because he had no motivation. Personally, I could never label that as being a duck. He didn’t fear Joe. He was just in a position where he had nothing to gain and everything to lose. But the point is, he has an obsession with believing that Roy ducked him for years out of fear, yet he feels as though he’s exempt from any kind criticism for his own actions throughout the years.

I wonder where joe boxer is these days ?.....Was he eventually put in a straightjacket for the rehabilitation he's crying out for with his rabid foam at the mouth posts here?

.......Still wherever the lad is....the world owes him a debt of gratitude......... for exposing the conspiracy that Roy Jones fought and beat Hopkins,Toney,McCallum and Hill just to shamelessly swerve a 9 to 5 ham n egger like Steve Collins.

He also tells us Roy avoided a Michael Nunn who was invincible inbetween defeats to Toney,Little,Liles and Rocchigiani.

Collins beat a Nigel Benn unable to walk straight whose huge fighting heart had been extinguished by a long battling career.

He beat a worn out Eubanks twice in 2 very close fights.

But thats it...other than that he was a domestic plodder....who just wanted to blarney and extort his way into a huge undeserved payday...he was exposed at true world level by kalambay,Mccallum and Johnson as a good european level contender.

He was WBO champ and all he had to do was beat Joe Calzaghe to get the Jones fight. He retired rather than fight a tough young live opponent.

The so called clamour for a Jones-Collins fight was entirely within the confines of Collins brain truth told.

His charmless rude baiting of a classy champion in jones says more about him than anything else.

Collins bullshhittery is reminiscent of John Furys with regards to a Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis fight or failed Irish big joe egans pretensions of being the "worlds toughest white man".

Lets be honest Steve would a fight between you and Jones have looked anything unlike Clinton Woods-Jones Jnr?

As for the risible claims Jones avoided Tarver while he was in his prime but than decided to fight him 3 times when he was a shot fighter?

Equally this hysterical madman claims with a straight face that a prime Jones, ducked Calzaghe but a shot jones couldnt wait to fight him? The truth is Tarver was losing fights to guys Jones defeated prior.once he started winning at world level ....jones fought him.

Collins, never remotely earned the payday he was demanding. If he'd accepted the money on offer like other weaker guys jones beat in that period ....like pazienza....or Thornton...than it wouldve happened.
