I have total flat foot but they have never made me any trouble. Today i found out that it looks like Roy Jones Jr has flat feet, it gives me great motivation to see somebody (who i think works out very much on his feet) has same feet like me. Are there any more famous boxers with flat feet condition? http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Bernard+Hopkins+v+Roy+Jones+Jr+Weigh+vXumF9DA3Jwl.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_feet
When talking about flat feet in boxing it refers to not being on your toes not your actual foot shape.
From what I understand about flat feet, it can mess up the alignment of your leg, giving the knees a tendency to buckle inward. And it can give you issues training (particularly running long) if you don't have the proper shoes. Flat footed kids also seem to be more prone to falling, so stability may be compromosed. Though I don't think it has much of a "direct" effect on your ability to box, as it does with your ability to train. I get the impression flat footed people do just fine, as long as they train with properly supported shoes, i.e. orthotics. Quick Google/Bing search brought up a bunch of other threads/discussions asking the same question: http://www.bing.com/search?q=flat+feet+boxing&form=MOZSBR&pc=MOZI
Yes, i know it. That's why i made the thread seeing Roy Jones being flat footed and having great career. Obviously it didn't bother him much.

Hey guys. I am going to let you in on a little secret. Flat feet = weak ,atrophied ,dysfunctional feet. There are forty intrinsic muscles in your foot that are responsible for forming your arch. That's right, there over 100 muscles , tendons and bones that make up the foot or the foundation to your punching power. The feet are not a bag of bones at the bottom of your body!!! As Leonardo Da Vinci wrote "The feet are an engineering masterpiece and a work of art". As soon as the feet flatten the ankles bend in, the knees twist in,one hip drops and one shoulder drops. Look in the mirror and you will see what I mean. The big news is that the foot is full of something called proprioceptors that are the nerve endings that send signals to the brain so that it can control how the rest of your balance/stability and gait muscles fire when you are in the ring. Fix the feet, turn the proprioceptors on and you will be a stronger more powerful fighter! Period, end of story. http://www.barefoot-science.com/proof/study/progfootstr Read the last two pages of this article and them ask yourself. Why would I not want to turn these muscles on???? You can fix your feet by finally including them in your daily exercise regime. You need to either/both working out barefoot, doing foot exercises and by putting Barefoot Science foot strengthening insoles into your shoes so that fifteen thousand times a day your foot and gait muscles get fired. You need to need to stop wearing those rigid running and dress shoes that inhibit or restrict the movement of your feet. You would never consider wearing a device on your arm or leg that permanently restricted ,cushioned, supported or braced (orthotics) their movement or question why they were weak and "FLAT" after wearing them for twenty years. Any of the new minimalistic/barefoot running shoes and a driving moccasin work great! http://www.barefoot-science.com/proof/study/proprioception http://www.toesalad.com/reviews/barefoot-science-foot-strengthening-system http://www.barefoot-science.com/proof/study/studyabstract Average reduction of skin on the ground after eight weeks is 36% or total elimination of flat feet! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8OJ4yE-QTI Try this 300 step before and after strength and balance test but substitute a punching pressure bag for the batting cage. Your punching power starts with your feet! Turn them on and bring it on!!! ps . Most of the U.S. Track and Field Olympians, 50% of the carded PGA tour players ,the World Strongman , the International Firefighter Combat title holders and the Special Forces wear this product. There is a great nine page article on proprioception in this months Men's Health magazine.
For some people it's a nightmare. I'm all right flat footed (sometimes feet feel weird when walking tho) and i train muay thai (bare footed) but some people can't walk much at all without pain and discomfort because of this ****.
