I've heard a lot about the benefits of taking flaxseed-type supplements, and some geezer at work keeps banging on about a German bird called Dr.Johanna Budwig and her diets. Apparently she mixes the flaxseed oil with organic cottage cheese, which makes the oil water-soluble as opposed to it's normal state of being fat soluble. This makes absorption easier and it increases the effect of the oil tenfold. Anyone know any more about this?

That made no sense at all Rakim. Oil is fat. Anti-oxidants (which is what the Budwig stuff is basically about, their role in cancer treatment if I remember correctly ) absorb in either fat or water, perhaps you are thinking something in that direction. Can you show me an article or something so I can try to understand you? :)

If you need fat in your diet i think flaxseed oil is the best way to get it. I think i saw a show where the UFC fighter Rich Franklin made a shake he has every morning and I think it was flaxseed oil that he puts in it along with protein, bannanas and other ingredients.

An oil mix is much better, there are many oils with beneficial substances. Flax, sesame, sunflower, hemp, etc. Just make sure you get cold pressed oils.

My shake for today was: orange juice, 2 bananas, 2 peaches, a shitload of strawberries, blackberries, flaxseed oil, hemp oil, whey protein, yoghurt. I drank it throughout the day during work, which was very physically demanding (paid workouts) :)

Sorry mate, I had to get a load of it written down before I completely forgot everything this geezer was babblng on about and I explained it badly. Here's a few links I've found, I'll try and get some really specific ones.

The advantages of flaxseed oil isn't the bit I'm questioning, it's the science behind mixing it with the cheese. He reckons this 'quark' stuff is a sulphurised protein or something, which makes the flaxseed oil turn water soluble when the two are mixed together. The now water-soluble mix is much more valuable to the body because the body's made up of a high percentage of water, meaning this mix can get to more places than the original fat-soluble flaxseed oil.

That's roughly what he said and I'd like to prove him wrong more than anything, so I was just wondering what anyone knew about this stuff. It sounds like a load of ****, especially the way some of these websites talk about it basically making you cancer-proof and almost immune to heart attacks.

As far as I know there's no such thing as solving oil into water. I'll read it later tonight I just returned from boxing, I need some rest first :D

The reasoning behind the cottage cheese afaik was that fats digest better when accompanied with protein, because it's the way we usually eat fats. A fish is fats plus protein, so that's quite reasonable. It will help prevent cancer because omega 3 fatty acids are an anti-oxidant and an anti-inflammant. Anti-oxidants either solve in fats in which case they will prevent free radicals in the cellular membranes, or in water in the cell itself.

Some of it sounds like horse **** but I'll check later on. I don't know everything about it, I'm no chemist.

Not sure you have to worry about it being more or less soluble. So long as the temp in your body is normal, you aren't going to have trouble absorbing it. Though, I believe fish oils are superior.
