Paul Fleming has made his first overseas performance successful with a dominant 1st Round KO over Juan Jose Beltran. Fleming started off very confidently throwing good punches. 40 seconds in Fleming threw a good left uppercut followed by a left hook which connected with Beltran to see him hit the canvas. He was unable to get up and the ref ended the fight 52 seconds into Round 1. Showtime will now turn his attention to his next fight on July 29 which is on Billy Dibs world title fight undercard against Roberto Lerio from the Philippines who is now training in Sydney. http://www.aus-boxing.com/news/?p=109
good on Fleming for this mornings effort..especially while on show to all the yanks but seriously...Lerio is a step backwards for ****s sake...with due respect to Lerio who's a tough and game fighter...
Yes he is as was the opponent he just fought but fact is it's hard to get him a fight so he's gotta fight someone....anyway hes only 10 pro fights so just important to keep ticking over and step up when the money for an opponent is there.
Guys with a rep like Fleming are hard to get fight for....sad but true...he'll be right..he's got a good team so its a matter of time till we see him on the big stage fighting in great fights
Robert Lerio will not be underestimated, but that fight is for Paul to keep ticking over as Top Rank have already indicated they want him back asap and will be looking at their show roster for the balance of the year and where to best position him. As Ash said, he's 10-0. Plenty of time to just keep him developing. Mike, Cameron and Billy H. know what their doing and are in no rush. It's all about proper development and when their ready to make him swim deep, he'll be ready.
Lerio is no push over, He is a tough fighter. He will keep Fleming honest and give him some rounds which is what Paul needs.
Paul v lerio is a mismatch, fleming will completely outclass him. but you cant blame them for keeping fleming busy, thats a good thing. Lerio doesnt care about boxing, its a payday for him.
yep Lerio is all of that...I just think that Paul is streets ahead of him and will benifit more from someone who'll push him and actually be a chance of winnin'...but in sayin' that I understand the quandary that he's in... ...I put Fleming in the same class as Willie Kickett...he could really benefit from some astute match making...just my thoughts..:good
Talking to his manager just before, he said Top Rank want him back in the states within next couple of months.
Top rank have cards galore they could put him on over the next 3 months including off tv bouts on Pavliks shobox card in august, Gamboas hbo bad card in early september, Chavez jrs top rank ppv card in late september or even a televised fight on 1 of top ranks weekly fox sports espanol cards.
