Just a quick question on everybody's flexibility and stretching routines. This is something i have stupidly neglected when im training . So what do you do, and how often? Any comments or tips appreciated. cheers.
I start each workout doing dynamic stretches/warm-ups. Look up the video entitled ’magnificent mobility’. For warm-up, I typically do these exercises for around 10 reps each: cat/camel, yoga twist, birddog, calf stretch, fire hydrants, supine bridge, front-to-back/side-to-side leg swings, supine/prone scorpion, windmills, high knee walks, overhead broomstick dislocates, squat-to-stand, crossover overhead reverse lunge, running butt kicks, and deep wideout drops. I do static stretches as a cool-down, but I sometimes get lazy and don’t do them after each work-out. I pretty much do static stretches for all major muscle group making sure to stretch glutes, quads, hamstrings, calves, hip flexors, triceps/biceps, chest, lats, and traps.
i do sum stretching before a workout not as much as i should. Thanks for the vids they will be useful. Do you only do this before and after a work out or do you have an actual workout of flexibility training?
I stretch a little every day before my workout, but its simple stuff. shoulder rotations, neck circles, wrist, across the front with the arms, try and sit down in a split front and side, touch the toes, do motions similar to an ax kick straight forward for the hamstring flexibility, but not too much else. Every day as soon as I get in the gym before I do my jumprope.
Think its the most overlooked aspect of getting Fit there is. It increases muscle conciousness , increases contractions, helps correct mobility issues, makes the muscle stronger, increases speed. Increases Biomechanical excellence, and prevents injury. With a good program on fitness you wont get any fitter in a 5 day, than doing 3 day program. What should be done is more maintainance of the structure, to prevent injury and tweak the fundamentals. To prepare the body to contend with gravity.
Manassa, there are some still think that. Think ive listened to most points of view, its proof i want or have been looking for, nothing better to do with my time . Been working on a project for a number of years, the results of the testing which I know, are interesting. As a few Sports Scientist working on the project have commented, thats that then we might as well throw the Books out of the window. Nothing set in stone believe me. But some of the work ive been doing sujests that Stretching and none impact work is the way forward, I think the proofs there know :good
Nice one. The thought of stretching weakening your muscles put me off for a while. Flexibility is a great thing to have though, so I've started stretching properly again regardless.
What does happen with stretching it creates tiny tares in the muscle. Which long term isnt a bad thing. As the muscle adapts to repairing them, long term you repair qiucker. Wonderfull thing is Muscle memory :yep.
