Your thoughts on the up coming fight? Has Povetkin been pushed too fast into a title shot or is he still gonna be the all defeating hero? On first glance at tonights performance I think he will get stopped late by Wlad, he could definetly have done with a couple more top class opponents.
Povetkin has nothing for Wlad to fear, his workrate was the only impressive thing I seen out of him tonite, finally Povetkin is exposed as just another above average Heavyweight contender.
Two things in Wlad's advantage, besides the obvious: 1. Povetkin's defense, though solid, might not be good enough to stop Wlad from landing that hard right hand. He was lucky Chambers didn't throw much and doesn't have much power, but with Wlad, it's a different story. 2. Povetkin's face got really puffy and swollen, as early as round 3. And this was against a light puncher with a low workrate. Wlad isn't impervious to this either, but his style makes him take a lot less punches. 3. Povetkin's strategy of getting in, throwing 3-4 punches might not work well against someone who is relatively quick on his feet like Wlad. Chambers barely had foot movement; Byrd had slowed down a lot as well. 4. He doesn't seem to have the one-shot power to take advantage of Wlad's chin. 5. Povetkin is a bit inexperienced. When things weren't going his way against Chambers during the first 5, he made no adaptations at all. Chambers got tired and he won on workrate, but he looked a bit one-dimensional to me. What if he can't get past Wlad's jab? Some things that might trouble Wlad: 1. Povetkin has a very high workrate; i estimate 50+ punches a round against Chambers, for 12 rounds. Wlad doesn't like pressure. 2. Povetkin is very well schooled-all round, knows and throws every punch in the book, throws double jabs, hooks off the jab, etc.
That's an alarmingly long list of worries The key point you touched on is his inexperience. The kids had 15 fights, and it's plain to see he's not ready. He looked a bit flustered at times, and easy to hit I think they would be making a mistake in putting him in against Wlad
that's right. he's got emmanuel steward in his corner. povetkin's trainer only said "you are the no. 1, you are the no.1".
Would he be still throwing 50+ per round if he got hit flush a few times by Klitschko? Most boxers change their approach after feeling Klitschko's power....
I can't see Povetkin beating Klitschko. He is there to be hit, he doesn't have Sanders or Brewster's power, and I'm not sure if he can get past the Klitschko jab and close the distance.
I think Wlad picks povetkin apart with his jab and monster rights. But povetkin is tough and will win rounds as well.
Probably not. In addition to your point, Chambers was there to be hit, Wlad will be on his feet most of the time, with long punches. Like the avatar, btw. :yep
