On paper I think you have to give the edge to Florian but Guida could be all wrong for Kenny stylistically. Sherk took Kenny down and smothered him the entire fight with ease. Guida might not be as good a wrestler, but he could definitely have a similar gameplan and I don't know if Kenny's wrestling will be good enough to keep Guida off. Kenny has the standup edge and can be dangerous if he can keep distance or somehow get on top. This is the biggest fight of Guida's career and I think a must win for Kenny against a tough opponent. I am rooting for Florian to win and Diego to lose so we can see that rematch.
Actually Guida has had some big fights. Huerta, Sanchez, and now Florian. I wouldn't say it's the biggest fight of his career but it's definately big. Guida's wrestling is definately his best weapon vs Florian but don't expect it to neutralize him for to long. Physically I'd say Guida is the stronger man but Ken-flo know's how to fight these kinds of guys. Sherk kept a green Florian on his back most of the time but Kenny knows how to deal with that now. I think this fight may be similar to the Joe Lauzon fight where Ken-flo was very aggressive off his back and didn't let Lauzon beat him up. Kinda like what Sanchez did to Guida from the bottom. Brutal elbows from below. Florian's elbows from the bottom I think are gonna come into play just like Diego's did. Plus Kenny is a black belt in Jiu jitsu so Kenny may attack with subs as well. So Guida taking Kenny down is gonna be meaningless. Of course on the feet Ken-flo kicks his ass. Florian by sub or TKO.
Kenny Florian has improved his wrestling skills quite a bit since he fought Sherk in 2006 so judging him off that fight isnt far. I think you have to look no further then how Diego Sanchez fought Guida to see what Florian can do in this fight. Clay Guida gets takedowns but rarely agianst a top level fighter does anything with it he lays his head in your chest, never passes and throws little GNP. Florian's best asset could possibly be his elbows from whatever postion and Diego hurt and busted open Clay off his back with elbows then look at how much trouble Diego put Guida in with submission I personally find Florian to have tighter BJJ skills then Diego does. Standup Guida is horrible and should get picked apart. Best thing Guida has are his takedowns and cardio well Florian has great cardio and will make Guida pay for his takedowns or takedown attempts. Should be a good fight though for Florian by I dont know what because Guida is tough but Florian wins impressivly.
