I was reading some comments from the recent Shane/Money article (well like the first 3-4 comments) from Exiled Yank and another gent regarding the comments of Shane Mosley. The comments then went on to berate Shane Mosley for not calling out DLH for fighting Pacman, or B-Hop for fighting DLH in a similar catchweight type bout.

Throughout history there have been men jumping weight classes to fight bigger men. For some it is a far more dramatic size differential than others, and some of the bouts are closer, resulting in excellent match-ups of power, speed, skill, etc. The difference however is this one fact: these men fought PRIMARILY in there respective weight classes before the catchweight bouts. I do recall DLH also fighting a smaller Steve Forbes for a tune-up before the Pacman fight, but thats the one exception off the top of my head (there may be more). These men also fought the best competition available at the time and the CW bouts were logical options and ATTRACTIVE match ups.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the Floyd situation is somewhat different. When is the last time Floyd entered the fight as an underdog? When is the last time Money went inot a fight and we, the fans, felt his opponent was a LEGITIMATE threat? Also, the man has fought in a CW in 3 of his last 4 bouts: DLH, Hatton, Marquez... scratch that, his LAST 3 bouts were CW. The reasoning for the latter two is that he was "called out" as we all know. Actually, I don't remember Hatton calling him out, but instead saying something akin to "You'll see more action in 3 or 4 rounds of my fight than an entire Mayweather match..." Floyd still opted to fight him. His welterweight matches were only Baldy and Judah, Judah which came after the Baldy loss by the way- solidifying his reputation as extremely mentally fragile, thus making him less of a threat. Lastly, lets not forget he didn't even bother making the agreed upon weight in his most recent sparring session...

Whatever the case, Floyd has backed himself into a corner. He has to fight a legitimate threat or a WORLD CLASS welter in his next fight or the Money express will come to a screeching halt. I don't know about you, but I'm preferring the welter fight. The Pacquioa-Money fight lost a lot of luster in my eyes this past Saturday. Floyd is just too big. Yes, Pac has carried the speed and some power up the scales but eventually will hit a brick wall (which may even be Cotto). I want to see Mosley Mayweather. It has to happen. Instead, Money's lemmings will bring up years old opportunities in which certain fights didn't come to fruition. Why? WHYYYYY? Are they scared to see their man take a challenge? Instead of saying "We want to see Floyd fight the best!!!", they simply look for any and all reasons to justify their man ducking and dodging every good fight imaginable. It literally makes no sense.

Pound for pound is not a weight class people. It is a fictitious ranking system fabricated by some boxing scribe for the purpose of comparison between fighters in varous weight classes. Nothing more, nothing less. Floyd needs to fight in his weight class for a few bouts. I'm glad Shane called him out, to his face no less. Let's see how stutterin' John, errr... I mean Money responds. He picks his own fights and he's his own boss, or so he claims. Notice when Shane was in the ring staring him in his eyes it quickly became "L-L-Leonard Ellerbe and A-A-Al H-H-Haymon conduct my bouts." What a joke.

Ohhh, by the way... the old "Shane ducked him in the past due to a toothache" argument-- Let me see you voluntarily get punched in the face for 36 minutes with a toothache!!!

Neither the Hoya fight nor the Hatton fights were at a catchweight. In fact, the Marquez fight was the first time Mayweather has participated in a catchweight fight.

First off Hatton and DLH were not catchweight fights as the dude above me pointed out. Mayweather moved up to 154 and fought DLh where he was shorter and smaller.

Second, Hatton blasted Mayweather's whole career by saying that his 4rds Castillo were more action than Mayweather's whole career. Floyd opted to fight an undefeated, undisputed champion who a lot people thught could beat him until Floyd dominated him.

Judah and Baldmir were the champs of the division so why wouldn't Mayweather make fights with them.

When Mayweather was at 140, he called out Mosley and was willing to go up to 147 to meet up but Mosley ducked him and said he had a toothache.

Mosley only wants to fight now because he's desparate for a payday.

Mayweather stutters a lot, thats just how he speaks when he gets excited. But he isn't afraid of Mosley. He's the one who called Shane pver. He was yelling at Mosley, pointing his finger in Mosley's face and was prepared to take the mic and address him before Kellerman cut the interview.

Main point is theres no reason for Floyd not to be fighting in his own weight division when there is the talent that there is in his division. JMM agreed to fight him and lost and thats JMM's problem and Floyd made money and the fight sucked. It happened, its done. But this guy is correct in saying Floyd cant keep dodging the talent in his own weight class if he wants to be taken seriously. He should be looking to fight Mosley, Cotto, Berto, or Pacman (if and only if, Pacman beats Cotto). If there was no talent in his division and he was taking on the best in other divisions, fine-understandable. But thats not the case. Also, theres a big difference in fighting boxers that are higher in weight vs going after those in the lower weight classes. Floyd is a great fighter and has the opportunity to cement his legacy as one of the all time greats if he would only fight the best that are out there. He seems more preoccupied with keeping his record undefeated and I think he truly believes this will show he is the best if his record remains that way. We all no thats not the case, just look at Joe Calzaghe. Its WHO you fight AND WHO YOU BEAT, not necessarily that you have an undefeated career because youre not fighting the best boxers out there during your run.

That is a very long post to write and have nothing in it. When was the last time that floyd was a dog in a fight??? What the **** does that have to do with anything???? Who would be a favorite over him now??? Shane would be a dog, Pac would be a dog, Cotto would be a dog, Williams would be a dog, Berto would be a dog. That proves nothing. As far as a threat, if I recall correctly and I do, but if not its only a matter of hitting the seach button, roughly 50% of the people here thought that Oscar and hatton would beat Floyd, how is that not a threat??? They were cring here that Floyd ducked hatton, but once he signed to fight him then the bitching went from ducking to weight. It was being said here that Floyd hadnt fought anyone like Oscar, and that Oscar would knock him out, but once the fight was over it was Oscar was shot. Its easy to say that Floyd doesnt take risks after he dominated a fighter, problem is its happened in fighter were people were saying that he would lose, and when he was said to have been ducking a fighter.

flawed logic, but I somewhat understand were it comes from, truth is when a fan doesnt like something they only look for ways and reasons to make it seem as if its not as good as others are saying...That is what your doing. No one gives Floyd any credit for moving up in weight and fighting bigger fighters, but in the two cases were he fought smaller fighter, he gets bashed to no end.

As far as wanting to see Floyd take risks??? Who detemines that??? YOU??? Because from what I have seen in my many years in boxing to someone like you taking a risk means actaully losing a fight, and if that dont happen then the fighter isnt taking a risk. I have said it time and time again, excuses will fly no matter who Floyd fights. If he fights Shane it will and have already been said that Shane is too old, it will and have already been said that pac is too small, it will and have already been said that Cotto is shot. thing is that only applys in talks of a fight with Floyd.

hahaha these floyd threads are hilarious, the guy has 2 smaller fighters his entire career, only ever been in one catchweight fight, foughtbigger guys 10 plus times has been the underdog in several big fights but right now there's no one in boxing he'd be an underdog against unless he went all the way up to middle so how can you fault him for that? ****ing haters crack me up.

How come the same criticisims doesnt exsist for other great fighters of his time? Mosely, ODH, Trinidad--they dont get spoken about for ducking fighters?? Why? Because they really havent. They have made big fights against big competition. Look at Cotto. The guy has fought some of the toughest welters out there. Theres a big difference in whom/when Floyd has chosen to fight people vs some other welters of his time. Floyd cant always use the excuse that everyone is hard on him. They wouldnt be if he didnt have such a questionable resume for a division and time in boxing when there was so much talent that he never faced/has yet to face.

I don't see how people fail to understand this, it doesn't matter who he fights from now on he will always be the favorite unless he moves up to SMW. Also if he beats paul they'll just say he was overhyped and that quintana already beat him.:patsch

Youd said when was the last time PBF enetered the ring as the underdog but you still want to see PBF-Mosley. You do realize that PBF would be the favorite in this fight as well don't you?:patsch It doesn't matter who PBF fights from 154 and down he'll be the favorite over everyone so by your logic he should just retire now.:-(

***** ass ODH lost just about every major fight. But the guy made the biggest fights because he took on who the boxing community considered the best during his run...and he made entertaining fights of them. Hell, the guy even took on BHOP. I never cared for ODH but cant take away his desire to compete against the best. Trinidad has that. Cotto has that. Mosely definitely has that. Floyd just doesnt have that...yet.

Also another point why do people always use a fighters first weight division to discredit who there fighting. For instance, Mayweather is fighting a carrer featherweight in Marquez, never mind that Mayweather is a career Super featherweight.(out of his forty fights most took place in the 130 pound division) I don't think people realize this is mayweathers 4th division hes fighting in(147) not his second like cotto or his only like hatton and margarito.

It was said about Ray Robinson, it was said about Ali, it was said about Leonard, and it was said about Jones. What does Floyd have in common with those fighters??? They were widely seen as the VERY best fighters of thier eras. Truth is Shane, Oscar and tito did indeed duck fighters, its just forgiven or not talked about as much. All fighters avoid certain fighters or certain styles. Its boxing you cant fight EVERY fighter in the world in one career. Its not possible. And there will always be the next guy, that a fighter has to fight.:good
