in my oppinion the news of this postponement is nothing but good for boxing because one of two things could happen, floyd could skip fighting marquez and go straight for paquiao, or floyd is timing himself out of the paquiao fight by pushing this fight back to a point where he could not turn around in time to fight pacman, but that would set up pac mosley which would be awesome, either way i wouldnt be surprised
It would be insane for Mayweather to come off a nearly 2 year layoff and take on the peaking Pacquiao. Having the Marquez fight to see where he stands, and to work some of the rust off, makes much more sense.
The two fighters are still fighting, theres not going to be a replacement. just pushing the date back to the end of july ish
That would be cheap and disrespectful considering Marquez is preparing for it, the fight is still on just postponed. Marquez is no scrub for no one to ditch him completely like that after scheduling to fight.
Without seeing the contract, and hiring a team of lawyers to fight it out, he might not be able to cancel without cost anyhow. Geez. Why think this is anything other than what it is? My son broke a finger at a sambo seminar. No, not dance lessons, Fedor's primary form of martial arts.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambo_(martial_art)
Rereading this I guess I'd have to ask the same. It made sense to me when I typed it originally.:nut The point I thought I was making is that the thread starter is reading way too much into this. NO reason to assume it is anything other than what was stated in the press release. Mayweather injured. Fight postponed. If anything, this is good for Marquez. It gives him more time to move up to the weight properly.
I would love to see Floyd go straight to Pac, but Floyd would have to pay J.M.M 3 mil to back out of this fight. Shaefer says the injury is a legitimate injury and that Floyd has to go see a specialist Monday. Floyd wanted to go through with the fight, but was advised after being in great pain after his workouts that he should reschedule.
Would you believe that this was already posted in pacland on June 4, 2009 by a certain prettyboy.floyd_30 --- "Golden Boy Promotion has to make a major decision this coming weeks for profit reasons. The proposed mega ppv fights between pbf vs. marquez is not selling well not only in tickets but also to the regular boxing sponsors tecate, cervesa and budwieser who doesnt like to back up the fight. Even the MGM grand didn't hold even a single ticket for the fight for their retail selling with hotel accomodation, while before the MGM always wanted to buy all the tickets in any major bout. According to Brad, less than 300 tickets has been sold as of this time. And theres no indication that it will surpass to 1,000 tickets this weekend. A very dismal showing for a mega fight or a ppv fight. So GBP is planning to move the schedule to August 8 and instead of PPV it will be shown for free viewing. GBP is not new to this problem, in two weeks or three GBP will have a major announcement to move the fight because of injury to either marquez or mayweather as the reason to move the fight. They always done this every time they smell something wrong at the box office."
Yeah, with Floyd's talent, he'd rather lose out on a pay day and read your "some fighters always find a way out" opinion lol.
freddie roach already said he wants to keep manny active and he's not gonna sit around and wait for floyd. he was already pissed he had to wait this marquez fight out, now it's getting pushed back?....we may just see pacquiao vs mosley/cotto after all. unless floyd is willing to give up that 3 mil and go straight for pacquiao.
